[EDIT: I finally know that the thing I am talking about is called dynamic decals. Anyway, this thread is for the techincal side (how decals actually work) not for people telling it's been suggested]

    Hey there,

I was recently playing GTA 5, as usual frustrated about the terrible handling of the cars. I accidentally crashed and it scratched my paint. So I started wondering.

Does anyone of you know how the scratches, dirt and blood on the cars work?
(I am not talking about dirt texture, but rather the dynamic "3D" mud that sticks to the car)

Is it directly linked to the damage system or is it something else. I couldn't find any information about it.
I really miss this in BeamNG but I don't understand the techincal side unfortunately.:(

[just saying]I think it would be very cool to implement something similar (scratches, dirt, mud, snow and other stuff) to Beam as well if it would be possible of course.

These sort of games just use a set sort of system that slowly adds up the amount of dirt that gets placed on the car. With the blood and the scratches though it would most likely just choose one of a variety of pre made decals that would be placed onto the car in the spot that you scratched it or where you hit somebody

Right, nothing found for thread actually asking for what it is and how it work. I now finally know that it's called dynamic decals and can move on.
