I think it would feel a lot more natural to have the garage exist in certain open world environments, like somewhere in the town in East coast, and somewhere in the industrial district in the coming west coast map. A version could exist in the open world environment, with the doors closed to cut down on polys. Loading into the garage could include a snapshot of the surrounding environment from the open world. it would look and feel more natural than the current streetset. In the future with a campaign mode, it could be possible to have load zones in the map, to teleport you directly to the garage. Just a quick example of placement The streetset I am talking about, and what would be replaced by objects from the real world.
Well, it would all depend on what the team wants to go for. A garage in the open world does sound fun, especially if the idea of getting cars and fixing them up becomes a thing. The open world garage could function similarly to some video game mechanics I've seen in the past. An example I'll use is a game I used to play called Sonic Adventure DX. There were several buildings in the game with just textures for interiors, but upon entering them, the actual interior of the building loaded in. Of course, the mechanics was switching the levels from the exterior to the interior. In my opinion, a mechanic like this could make an open world garage feasible.
I like the idea. It would be an nice feature if we could have an garage mode integrated into some of the official maps we have now. The garage would work similarly to how the garage mode works now with how the menus are set up and so on but when we would be done designing our car in the garage we would just be able to drive out of the garage onto the rest of the map to test the vehicle. We could have an garage in the pit stops in the hirochi raceway and upcoming ECA. We could have an garage in basically any map that has an garage/pit stop currently in it. We could also have it that when we leave the garage we already have an checkpoint at the starting line of for example hirochi raceway so we could measure our times. Yes I know we could just load up into the official maps and press ctr+w but this would be way cooler and it would have the thing with the checkpoints.
