Got a new controller for my laptop but the audio is SUPER LOUD and I can't turn it up or down. Any help? Also BeamNG won't recognize it for some reason. Once it said "Recognizing new controller" but it never actually recognized it. --- Post updated --- I got youtube sound to work actually but that is it. --- Post updated --- Also I know my controller is working. I can somewhat move the mouse around and stuff. --- Post updated --- Short update: I have an Xbox ONE controller, and last time I checked Xbox one controllers aren't compatible with BeamNG.. I thought it would be now though since a video I saw to fix it was made 3 years ago. Come on devs, you had 3 years to make 1 simple controller compatible with your game.
I do use an Xbox One controller, but I have it plugged up with a micro-usb from the controller to my laptop. Once that is connected and everything needed is correctly downloaded, it should work. Watch a tutorial for help.
You found really outdated info. It's fully compatible, we ourselves use them. Not really any tutorials are needed, it's simple plug & play. Your issue may be related to something else. First, why you mentioned audio? Are you using the audio jack in the controller? What Windows you have? How does it recognize the controller in the device manager? And in-game, in Options>Controls>Hardware anything shows? Is it Wireless (bluetooth or dongle?) or wired? Also: Open Steam Big Picture > Settings > Controller settings and make sure no checkbox is checked. Those can cause similar problem (and are disabled by default)
the newest tutorial is 2 years old haha --- Post updated --- I have to use the audio jack in the controller because when my controller is plugged in the audio jack for my laptop doesn't work anymore. I did try it with the game DiRT 4 and tried lowering the audio sounds, I'll try that. --- Post updated --- Windows 8.1, it is wired, and when I connect it it shows nothing in hardware besides the keyboard and mouse. --- Post updated --- I'll try changing the controls with Big Picture, but steam likes to be difficult with me,
Sorry, I got busy, but I meant to look for a tutorial on connecting your Xbox controller by micro-usb to your computer period, hence how I do it. Something like this video:
I'm talking about the connecting issue. Here, try this. Go to your Settings > Devices > Bluetooth And Other Devices. With your controller supposedly connected, do you see a "Controller" picture pop up? If it doesn't after a minute or so, than your PC doesn't detect it. If your PC doesn't detect it, how would BeamNG... Take my speech with a grain of salt, I could be wrong.
My computer actually detects it, but Steam won't. The controller is working with all the games I have tried besides BeamNG (DiRT 4 and ETS2)
Eh. Just plugged the dongle, turn on the controller (anytime, even if in-game) and it simply works. No weird trickery or steps. If your computer itself is not detecting the controller, the problem is more likely at the system level. Now, I don't remember exactly, but I recall Windows 8.1 doesn't have the drivers needed. See here: https://support.xbox.com/en-us/xbox-on-windows/accessories/connect-xbox-one-controller-to-pc
If the computer registers it, and it works in non-steam games, but not in Steam games, then you could try disabling the steam controller support stuff. I don't know exactly how it's done, since I did it awhile ago. But I think you just go to the Steam settings, then under 'controller' you go to general settings, then just uncheck everything. There might be more to it than that, but I'm sure you can find more on it if you Google it.
Let me just clear this up: The controller works for every game but BeamNG. --- Post updated --- it works for pretty much everything don't see how the USB port could be broken.
This. Steam is the only thing that could be causing that, in this circumstance. Please make triple sure of this, which I wrote above: Also, since BeamNG.drive doesn't require Steam to run, close Steam completely and launch the game from the .exe in it's directory, so that it launches without Steam and you can verify if it works or not.
Haven't completely understood your post. Any controller that declares PC support should work, with our without manual configuration. I can't say much about the DS4 controller as I don't own one, but I recall that does not work 'out of the box', as other users posted. Steam has support for it (Big Picture > Settings), so you would need to check that to make it work.
