Hirochi Sunburst Missing Rear Door Handles

    I'm pretty sure you have to have a handle there, or you might need to be a ghost to get in the rear seats.

    That's pretty neat, and not something I've seen before. After reading your post I took a look around and found that Seat and Honda have both made cars this way, which lead to an interesting anecdote from Seat: Seat Official Says Hidden Rear Door Handles Hurt Sales of Previous Leon

    Sales of the previous Leon were probably hurt more by many other factors, coming as an undistinguished car in a segment dominated by multi-talented and better accomplished propositions being the most relevant one. The (derivative, but somewhat attractive) styling was actually one of the few strong points of an otherwise forgettable vehicle.

    Widespread application of the "hidden" door handles began with the launch of the 156 by Alfa Romeo, who's been pioneering this solution since the mid '90s:



    The Leon was the most obvious attempt of the VAG group to morph SEAT into the "Spanish Alfa Romeo". Hence the hidden door handles and the blatant copy-cat styling (the Leon Mk2 was penned by the former Alfa Romeo designer, Walter De Silva).

    Though the very first (modern) vehicle I can think of with such an arrangement was probably the '90 Nissan Terrano:
