https://www.beamng.com/threads/history-of-beamng-drive.78162/ Ok, so this thread was 2 years old, couldn't post to it, wanted to put reasearch somewhere. First of all, I want to specify that what Agent said is not true. after like 4 hours of reasearch on the wayback machine and an extensive google doc, I can confirm a lot of things, and one of them is that rigs of rods is very, very much the ancestor to beam. according to a blog post in august 2007, Thomas/Tdev who had been helping make the RoR forums and site, started helping develop the game. This Thomas, however, is the same one that in 2013, co-founded beamng; Thomas Fischer, also known as tdev on the forums. From 2010 onwards posted the RoR blogs; and the reason why he started doing so was that Pricorde had (Probably) quit, looking at a blog post from september 21, 2009. he stated that: [This year RoR has reached a critical size, and my dwindling free time and interest requires a radical change of the development process of RoR. I can not continue to manage everything and release as I did before, with the great help of Thomas. We need experienced volunteers to continue the work done: we need developers and build a professional developers community we need to federate and manage contents we need to improve documentation and user interaction Teams have started to assemble toward these goals, but we need more fresh blood, especially people experienced with working-on and managing large OpenSource projects. Thanks for your help.] He never posted on the blog again, replaced by Tdev stating changes and updates. They're not the same game, but they sure as hell are related. There's probably even more people that moves from RoR to Beam but I was only trying to learn what happened to Pricorde. but, if you really want to know if they're related, here's a tweet from 2012: https://twitter.com/beamng/status/230143805460971520?lang=en
Why on earth did you make a separate thread for this --- Post updated --- Ok nvm that ones 2 years old
My point 2 years ago was probably that it's not the exact same game and the employees are different people. My point about trusting Wikipedia still mostly stands, what was there at the time was wrong, but it was 2 years ago.
From all I know, (not 100% sure how many) about 4 people went from RoR, 2 modders and 2 devs (I’m still not sure tho) and went on to make BeamNG. That’s the basic stuff I know
real mystery is where Pricorde/Pierre-Michel Ricordel went. apparently the last time they heard from him was for an aniversary in 2015.
Some of the guys who worked on RoR helped work on BeamNG (and still do work on it). I don't think there's anything else to it.
I mean... what do you want to know? I was there since almost the very beginning and I think I have the oldest active account still over there on the RoR forums. Joined back in 2007 so I was there for quite a bit, but I was following the blog long before the forums ever existed.
