Greetings, all. I need to make a copy of the East Coast, USA map in BeamNG.drive for editing and adding new assets, while preserving the original. As I'm not particularly skilled with the World Editor, I'm looking for a straightforward method to ensure that the original map remains unchanged. Manually copying the map has proven to be time-consuming. What is the most efficient way to duplicate the map using the World Editor?
Copy the original map from Steam/Steamapps/common/BeamNGdrive/content/levels and put it somewhere else, maybe desktop. Download this tool: https://www.beamng.com/threads/beamng-tool-for-map-creators-updated-2024-06-02.89058/ With this tool you can rename the map and do whatever you like with it without changing a thing to the original one. There is a tutorial video on the page where everything is explained. I know that the editor and especially the folder and file setup for a "new" map is very intimidating at first. This is the video I started with and it explains most parts of the setup. I still look into it when I forget something..
The way I did it for the template (works for any map) was I just copied the whole folder, put it in my mods folder, and renamed everything to my own name, then I could edit the map to my preferences
"renamed everything". Could you be more specific? Like what is the bare minimum name changes you would have to do to make BeamNG's code stop looking at the official map?
I would recommend to look at pixel monkey’s tutorial on it, it may be long but explains it well, and I don’t always get everything right anyway . Heres his tut: --- Post updated --- Also if u do a bit of googling you should be able to find a tutorial on copying east coast ive seen a few
