So basically I've been modifying the range box code in order to have 4 gears and a neutral you can shift between. I've managed to get all four gears although neutral with a gear ratio of 0 just locks up the engine rather than disconnects from it. My question is how to make a range box disconnect from it's input?
I guess you could add a shaft between the rangebox and the transmission and use the powertrain control modes to disconnect it with the neutral gear. But why are you even doing this instead of using the neutral gear on the transmission?
Basically my goal with this is to replicate a Spicer 6x4 compound transmission. Which is basically a 6-speed h-pattern gearbox with a second 4-speed h-pattern box attached on the end. In order to do that I am modifying a rangebox for the Auxilary transmission. With using two H- pattern shifters hooked up I want putting either into neutral to disconnect power as that's now it works IRL
No idea if something like that is even supported, maybe you should ask the people who worked on the GTG T-Series mod since they messed with weird gearboxes like this
I did try the disconnecting front shaft idea and it seems to work. Now just have to figure out how to get rid of the "Shaft: Disconnected" Messages. Thanks
Wouldn't it be possible to use a second gearbox for the 4 speed rangebox ? As an example the Landcruiser J80 has a 2 speeds rangebox with neutral. The rangebox is never disconnected from the gearbox, because power is needed for the PTO (power take off) for the winch. The PTO is a shaft connected to the rangebox. It has a disconnect lever. The rangebox neutral come into play when you want to use the mechanical winch, you have to select a gear on the gearbox, and select neutral on the Rangebox so that no power is delivered to the wheels. I think that the simpler to mimic that is to use two gearboxes, a 5 speeds one and a 2 speeds one, and a second shaft at the output of the first gearbox for the PTO or for an hydraulic pump.
As you can see this post was over a year ago. Since then I have iterated and improved on said system to basically do what you describe with a second gearbox part that has most of the gear grinding/clutch functionality ripped out of it. It's currently being used for a set of transmissions for the T-series in this mod. https://www.beamng.com/resources/t-series-drivetrain-expansion.29462/
