Some websites have old vehicle mods that are really cool and some are detailed from 2014 and 2015, how do you make those work and load-up in-game? I looked at the file structure and it looks very different.
Don't use websites other than beamng.com for mods. Also, it takes alot of work to make old mods work in the current version, but it can be done if you know how to work with jbeam stuff.
I get that this site is good for the best models and stuff but there are some really old mods I would like to have in the latest version of the game. Noone has the time to updated them, so I thought I should myself. How do you do this?
That's kinda like asking "How do I make a new mod", it's not as simple as deleting a line of code or something. I don't know how to do it, but I would use the wiki as a resource, and ask some experienced modders about what to do.
Not really no. Making a new mod is a whole other ballgame. Who are these experienced modders you speak of? I simply posted a question looking for help and advice, the least you could do is point me in the right direction.
Well, try speaking with some of the devs who deal with scripting stuff. Also some people have restored old mods in the past, I would talk with them aswell.
Nobody here will do it for a simple reason, that entire site is hugely frowned upon, people that have tried updating them get hated on. So short of doing it yourself (which is indeed akin to making a new mod), you arent going to get any help. He already pointed you in the correct direction, wiki.
I don't plan on releasing any mods, just to clear the air. I also did not ask for any help with modding, just general instructions for converting old mods to the new format. And no converting a mod is not the same as making a mod from scratch. You're an idiot if you think it is. I had a read through the wiki and couldn't find anything on updating the mods. At all. You referenced a site, whereas I didn't. Your comment makes zero sense and is completely irrelevant. So unless you're willing to help, don't bother replying with disgust.
Having done it. I can say yes it is virtually the same. I pointed you the right way. That is all you will find help wise, take it or leave it rather than openly insulting people
In order for us to better help you tell us WHAT you want to update on the car. convert the wheels to the universal wheel system? add thermals? What exactly are you planning/trying to add?
When you start from scratch you have to build upon nothing and dig dig dig for information to build basics. Converting, you have everything at your disposal. The model, the jbeams, everything is there, you just gotta figure out what works and what doesn't. The two are completely different. B for Bullshit, Liar.
I have made attempts at both using guidance from the wiki. Either take the valid advice you have been given and drop the petty insults or leave it. Nobody provoked you into making such insults either. Christ some people are so salty
Thermals is not nessecary. If converting wheels is simple enough, then yes but all I ask is getting a 2014 & 2015 vehicle mod to work with 0.5.6. From what I can tell the file structure is different, but is there anything else? I just want to get the old car in game & working at the basic level. There is allot to convert out there, so I'm just looking for the basics. Don't have time for details, maybe in the future.
Though because apparently the phrase wiki isnt enough. http://wiki.beamng.com/Portal --- Post updated --- Changed your wording again, precisely why I make quotes
1. You singlehandedly provoked me with your own stupidity & ignorance. Stop trolling. 2. Getting called out on Lieing doesn't make you exempt from anything. 3. You are the salty one here. I know where the wiki is & read through it. You must be blind fool if you skipped that over.
Please indicate where I trolled. I pointed you at the wiki for content creation and spoke truth. There were no lies. And yet you openly insult the person that did nothing but provide help. Top tier banter.
This isn't really as accurate as you probably think it is. When creating a mod from scratch we spend a lot of time looking at the guts of official content eg the part you think of as "everything at your disposal". The truth is that an existing mod can have tons of different problems and what you have posted so far isn't specific enough. Remember, BeamNG.drive is a pre-release game and changes are constantly being made. Mods are constantly being broken in a variety of ways. Look at who you're in a conversation with... Narwhal, SixSixSevenSeven, Slammington, and I all have mods accepted into the official Mods DB so it's fair to say that we must know what we're talking about. ;-) LOTS of things are different. Multiple systems have been overhauled, changed, removed, etc in the past 2 years. If the file structure is wrong, fix that first. Get the mod to load in the game. Then ask for help with the specific problems you run into with the specific mod. Post pictures, descriptions, and files. Remember that errors are posted to the console (~) so check that.
yes the file system is different. Now mods are stored in documents/beamng.drive/mods or for unpacked ones documents/beamng.drive/mods/unpacked. For the unpacked you put them in folder that is named the mod name and with a .zip at the end. Not a actaully zip file though, just a folder with .zip extension. From there you create a folder called vehicles and inside that one you create a folder that is named what your mods main jbeam is named. Inside that final folder is where all the jbeam, textures and other things go.
You know what yeah, sometimes you can get away with a simple mod repackaging, guidance on how a mod should be packed is in the wiki or could have been provided had you asked on this specific point. Most of the time, its still broken, Jbeams can literally explode (go make a new one, its in the wiki, or maybe retune the current one, again wiki or asking about that point directly). Materials can be wrong and new materials.cs files need making, this usually has to be done from scratch, again detailed in wiki. Materials and packing you can also copy how default vehicles work. But why I am typing this I dont know. As it stands, you were directed to the wiki. You then immediately switch to insulting people when this was inadequate. I see no rudeness from myself here "Nobody here will do it for a simple reason, that entire site is hugely frowned upon, people that have tried updating them get hated on. So short of doing it yourself (which is indeed akin to making a new mod), you arent going to get any help. He already pointed you in the correct direction, wiki." and yet you just jump to throwing insults at people. A logical person would have explained why that was inadequate and asked for further guidance, instead you insult people. You dont deserve help. I am done.
I sure as hell will help him. The more modders the better. Once he learns the basics he can go on to create higher quality things. Some people need to stop putting off new modders by getting in arguments with them and instead celebrate them. Be happy someone is trying to learn. Just because a modder is misinformed doesnt mean either the modder or the helpers should start a fight. Try to correct each other in a nice polite way. Sadly this is the internet and everyone gets butthurt over everything.
