Okay, this whole thing about skins has been stressing me out so much lately. I've pretty much spent all day searching the internet on how to put together files to make a working mod download (All I know how to do is the paint.net skin file) with no avail. Can anyone here tell me how to make this skin file actually work within the game? I've currently made a Van skin, I just need to know how to make copies of the JBeam of the van or whatever (I think) and other things, put them all in a folder, then ZIP it, anyone know where to find those extras besides the skin? I'm brand new to modding and all, so it would be great to not have someone talking pure programming language to me, just English :p.

The tutorial explains what each part of that code do I'm pretty sure.
Instead of making somebody explain again what is already been explained, just tell which part you didn't understand.

Well, first of all, I'm not sure how to get to these codes, second, am I editing these codes or am I just making them from scratch? I'm also worried I might delete or edit the wrong part of these codes if I even get to them.

Then check this one instead: http://wiki.beamng.com/Simple_skin_tutorial
(There is a link to that also in the thread I posted above).
This one will literally grab your hand and guide you through the whole thing.

Ah yes, I've actually already made my own skin from that tutorial, as seen here:

My goal is to make my own skin for the Van, not the Covet. Should It be as easy as copying the Jbeam files and whatever material.cs is to the skin folder, then ZIP it? Where would those Jbeam and material.cs files be then?

P.S. Thanks for helping me out, I'm used to jerks yelling at me whenever I ask a question on this website...

It's the same thing for other vehicles.

Change any 'hatch' words to the vehicle you want (ie. for the H15 you use 'van', for the D15 you use 'pickup' and so on - You can find the correct names in the game directory > content > vehicles)

Okay, I did everything, and it doesn't show up in the game. It reads it as a mod in the mod menu, but under skin selection in the parts selector, I cannot find it anywhere. Could you look at the file down below to see if I did anything wrong? (The skin is just a quick test skin obviously, not the final)

You didn't change the texture name in the materials.cs file

Do you mean to change SKINSAMPLE_YOURNAME in all of the materials.cs to a custom name? I'm confused...

The highlighted text in the notepad (line 4)

You do not have a SIMPLESKIN_YOURNAME.DDS file.
    You have a snowy_van_skin.dds.
You need to tell the game to load the correct DDS file by changing the filename in the materials.cs (which is pointing to a non-existant DDS file)

Changed what you said to change in the material.cs file (Changed line 4 "SKINSAMPLE_YOURNAME to snowy_van_skin), still isn't working for me. Renamed jbeam file to van_snowy_van_skin and that doesn't help either, Is there anything else I did wrong..?

    Show me your files agains.

If your DDS file is named 'AppleBananas.dds'
In the Materials.cs, in the line that references to that file, you must have the same exact name:
    Code:
    overlayMap[2] = "vehicles/van/your_skin_folder/AppleBananas.dds";

Thanks so much! Finally works. One last question though: For skinning, is it okay to "draw" over the lines of the main vehicle outline? Not sure if that would glitch out the vehicle or anything, but it would be great for having the right texture repeat itself without having it be a weird size and angle to fit the outline of the vehicle. Also, is there a way to fix the green inside the vehicle, or will that simply be fixed when I overlay the base grid pattern with the snow texture?

The lines are there just for reference.
To help you know what are you painting.
You should remove/hide them when you export your skin.

And yes, the interior part will get the same colour you use to paint the 'rest' of the body.

If you want to upload a skin onto the website as a resource, what exact files do you need??
And can I change the SKINSAMPLE_YOURNAME.dds name to anything else?
