How to set up "H-shifter" on numpad/car goes out of gear when i let go of asigned button

I binded keys for each gear like Gear 1 - numpad 7 but when i let go of the button it goes in to neutral. Any way that the car would stay in gear after I let go???? Btw sorry for my grammar if there are any mistakes

 

It is meant to be used with this or shifters like this. That's a great idea but once you shift into the gear you would leave it there witch would be like holding the number in. If you want to buy it I think I got mine for 150 USD. I know there is a cheaper Logitech one.

 

Thanks for the info. I was trying to use my joystick as a shifter with Xpadder if you known what that is.

 

You also may need a wheel for shifters, as the wheel is the setup's hub, and sends signal to the computer.
