i just built a 700hp 200bx in an attempt to make an fd style car, the only thing lacking was the steering angle. A 65-75 degree angle kit would be awesome! just a simple idea. any response appreciated.
the drift steering for the 200bx is set at the highest angle it can achieve without snapping suspension components in half
what do you mean snap in half? the steering system in the game is screwed up anyway (the coil-over twists with the wheel instead of the wheel turning independently from the knuckle.). what i would say is would it be hard to code in a system that does rotate from the knuckles instead of twisting the coils and thus defeating this issue?
Hmm, there is this flexmesh, that is graphical presentation of coilover and then beams and nodes which actually are the parts of the suspension. Which of those you are referring to? From debug menu you can set beams visible by type and then use ingame ctrl + '-' to reduce visibility of mesh, so you can see what is really happening when you turn the wheels. That coil that you see is just smoke and mirrors, it has zero effect on funtcional side.
Ok, i never new that. So, that being said, you could add cut knuckles and make more angle regardless of the suspension "snapping in half" right?
In nost cases the drift steering is set at the biggest angle possible and in some cases even to big as in case of the moonhawk where it can catch a bit on the frame and inner fender. If you'd like to increase it further you would have to extend the wheel track even more which would require even woder fenders.
When the steering angle is too great, the suspension can't handle the extra torsional stress, and beams will break apart. This can happen in real life too, which is one reason why you can't make your car steer extra far, especially when hitting lots of bumps, unless you get a very good angle kit that completely modifies your suspension geometry to account for the extra stress and strain. And the steering works fine. Of course the coilover will turn with the knuckle when it is attached to it. If you can't drift with this much angle: Then you might need to practice some more.
Simple answer to your question... Yes, you can build an Angle kit that will allow for crazy steering angle just like in real life. It just needs to be thought through like the ones in real life as well. Things like moving the locations of the steering rack and the knuckles and what not need to be taken into account. Anything that could break a real one will break one in the game as well, so keep that in mind.
you can get more angle if you edit the steering lock but it varies. I would only recommend going up in +1 and test as others have said you will break parts bend part or compress springs as stuff bind etc the etk i series can handle a fair bit around (0.26) if i remember correctly --- Post updated --- https://www.beamng.com/threads/steering-angle-i-want-more.2143/ how to add more lock
