First of all - if I place a particle and change it from BNGP_0 to 1 or whatever, it doesn't update unless I delete it and undo the delete. Fine, I figure that's just an engine thing. Secondly, I have no control over the thing so I click on PARTICLE EDITOR and there are some settings - none of which do what they should do. For instance, changing it's lifespan from 10ms to 1000ms makes it die immediately instead of last 1 second. Okay maybe that functionality isn't really there yet. So, change direction . . nope, that's wonky AF and certainly doesn't change the way I tell it to. Align to direction. I'm pretty sure this is broken, because I can type anything in the field and nothing happens. So... SPIN! Nope, it spins no matter if it's turned to 0 or 1000000. I've googled and keep seeing the same one post by someone asking how to make a waterfall and funny enough that's what I'm trying to do. I made the NOS PURGE work exactly how I wanted it after an hour of tweaking, annnnnnnnd it went back to normal. For years I've just made particles do what I want in various games, so I was all, "heh you got nothing on me Mr.Torque Engine! " so much for that. Any suggestions? =)
Well it appears I didn't have the box checked, "Enables Render of Object Node Icons" and had earlier had that on. Not sure if it's a default or not, of if I had simply hit "N" accidentally. Regardless, I've now learned through experience slightly more about how things work: If you have node rendering off it won't show the little particle emitter icon, only the emitter icon *without the shooting star* and if you change the particle type on THAT, nothing happens until you delete it and undelete it to see the changes. IF YOU have node rendering ON, you can select the shooting star, and when you change the particle type on THAT it will change realtime without needing to delete and undelete it. Then - as long as you have the emitter selected - when you enter the PARTICLE EDITOR you can change the individual particle emitter settings. I thought the point of the particle editor was to create a NEW particle emitter and place it in, and not to also allow you to modify the one you have selected. Again this is all based on trial and error, I wasn't able to find any instruction on this and it's quite obvious now that I've gone through it. Where I'm STUCK though is making the particles actually last long enough to fall down the water fall. Currently I have the top third of it looking fantastic! But. . the particles just disappear no matter how long I set their life to, how how many I set it to emit, or wherever I put the "time" sliders to <--- figured they'd do something but nope. So: Now that I understand the basics of selecting and modifying them, what do I need to do the make them last longer than 1 second before fading out and WHY does changing AMOUNT from 1, to 2 to 5 to 10 to whatever, make LESS particles!? Confusing. Please spend a few seconds to help, thanks! Merry Christmas BTW!! =)
