Now that my heightmap is in game, is it possible to import the sattellite image itself for reference of where to place objects and roads? If so, why won't it just let me import the texture map via the channels? They won't show up.

Yes, it is entirely possible. Here it is the default gridmap with a custom satellite image :D.

Now, it seems that you have already done the hard part, which is getting the satellite image. Reminder: the image needs to be square and its resolution a power of 2.
You don't need to use the channels/texture map at all for this purpose. Leave that section empty.
    Go to the Terrain painter.

And double-click on the material on the right that your terrain uses (you should only be using one at this point), it is probably Asphalt.
There, click on the diffuse thumbnail and select your satellite image, and change the "Size" to the terrain size required (1024, 2048, or 4096...).
You might need to set the "Strength" of Macro and Detail to 0, for greater visibility.

    Good luck :p.

Thank you so much man, this is already correcting hours upon hours of figuring shit out!

I'll report back once I have satellite uploaded whether it works or not!

    Thank you!

Okay it works! But is there a way to "fill" the entire map? If I have to paint the texture on that's entirely fine... but if there's an easier way it would save a lot of time. haha

Everytime I select "autopaint" and select generate it crashes. haha

Hm.. You could try deleting all the materials on the list except one (with the small bin icon), and edit that only material left.
You can add them back later if needed.
