Hi. I got quite an interest in vehicle crashes and such, so therefor when the IIHS had released a video, showing that trailers had bad underride guards, I decided I would try myself in beamNG. The result was quite bad, as the underride guard seemed to be misplaced. I didn't think much, but when WBR just made a youtube video with it, it made me think once again and it something that would be good to be re-made. I guess the main problem is that, this is not a trailer, and therefor it's quite high. Doing some quick google research, as I'm an European and I'm not familiar with American trucks, it seems that the wheels are usually smaller = the truck is not that high so the underride guard would actually do it's job. OR if the truck actually is that big, the underride guard is usually much longer. The underride guard is suppose to hit a vehicle's front, and do the crumple zones job but instead it hits straight through the windshield and causes as much damage as if it wasn't there (unless it's a bigger vehicle rear ending it.) Here's a couple of pictures. And video for the IIHS for help.
Good idea also surprising to see how the most underride gua4ds fail because they are to high so they cut of your head
Any plans to make it bend or collapse in higher speed crashes? Or does it already? Can footage be provided of the behavior of it?
IT'S HAPPENING. Looks way better now, can't wait to try it out in the next update Thanks! Great to know you guys actually care about suggestions. - - - Updated - - - I suppose it does bend, if the speed is high enough. Only reason it ain't doing it, on that crash is because the speed seems too low (Judging to the car's damage.) Looks quite realistic, as in the IIHS video.
