I am sure we all know the brief appearance of the in game repository was nice but with how much trouble its been is it worth pursuing as a feature at the current stage? I hate to think man power is being spent on putting a band aid fix on it and having the issues in the future when the game is in need of some serious boosts to ensure its longevity. I would feel like these types of features are better worked on toward the end of development not mid way through but I am just one opinionated Aussie, so comment your thoughts. P.S. Stop calling it maintenance as a consumer I hate when businesses don't just come clean, if its broken tell us. Corvette
The notice was written when we weren't yet sure of what was the problem, and wasn't updated till then. It was taken down due a bug that caused mods to be continuously downloaded/updated, causing major lag issues (game-breaking). We already found the issue causing that and fixed it internally. It requires also a fix on the game's side, so there is a hotfix coming soon for that. P.S. 'Fix it immediately' posts does not help. P.P.S. Remember the Repository is at its first release, so expect things not to work perfectly still. Stuff will be ironed out as we go.
Thanks for the update the fix it immediately option was there cause thats usually the mind set of the forum, if a dev thread goes quiet for 2 hours its "dead" I realise that was a poor word choice now so I apologize for that.
Yup, I didn't use the repo at all even when it was implemented. I found it easier to go on the forums. Plus, I have my own organization system.
Honestly I have yet to actually use the in-game repo for anything, it just seems to me like its a more awkward way of browsing the repository than on a normal browser and its not like you have to close the game or restart it to download mods from a normal browser either.
I guess we should remember that while we are something that could be called advanced users, there are plenty of potential customers that are not and I can't say repo would be stupid, I can't even say that it would be useless or unneeded. Probably it is very thing game needs in broader perspective. For me it is not important, but for game, I can see need for such.
anyone having 1 or 2 mods constantly updating? every time I click update mods it re-downloads the grand marshal skins by f150ranger and that a year in the life campaign pack I used to also have the eris cocal update too but that stopped a while ago
I agree, I use the website because it's the traditional way that also happens to be a bit faster and more effecient. But a lot of people don't know about this website, and go to Russian sites for mods. That's why the repo is such a big thing, it drops the buiseness of Russian mod websites and gives it to the official site.
Also upcoming leaderboards need mods to be validated so no cheating is possible and for that they need to deliver mods via place where they can add little something to mod packages that makes them invalidated if tampered.
That could partly be true but i would argue that anyone who wants cars for BeamNG will look at the ingame repo and think "oh theres only like 5 unique cars and bunch of skins" then google it and end up going to a Russian site to download any cars they want instead. Especially since the devs stopped allowing branded mods on the repo.
Copyright and trademark laws required that. If something goes through us (like repository mods), it cannot have any of those (or it would similar as if BeamNG is redistributing XYZ copyrighted/trademarked content). The forum on the other end is not subject to that. Things in there do not go through us, so whatever you upload is your responsibility there. Just staying from that ugly and complicated law stuff.
Yeah, I understand the reasoning for it, I just meant to an average player they are probably looking for brand X or model X so when they can't find it they likely go to google and in turn other sites like world of mods etc.
