I haven't found anyone having this problem yet- no matter what my framerate is, there's about a 1 second delay between my keyboard/wheel and the game.
The gas/brake being delayed isn't too annoying, but it's impossible to steer with such a long delay.
I tested everything on the lowest possible settings (to rule out fps as the problem) and the delay was still there.

    Any help? :(

Have you tried a different keyboard?

I get a bit of input lag on my laptop but it gets 20 FPS at lowest settings so it makes sense..

It's not the keyboard, my G27 does it too.

The delay for the keys/buttons isn't that severe. The problem with the steering seems to be 1) There's a slight delay and 2) The vehicle's wheel doesn't accurately follow the position of the G27's wheel (if I yank the wheel all the way to the right, the vehicle's wheel takes a second or two to actually get there).

I'm used to how responsive the wheel was in RoR where the steering followed the position of the controller, no matter how fast you were steering.

Shift + B to turn off the dynamic steering. It should only be enabled for keyboard/controller users and right now we have no way to autodetect that you're using a wheel.

Have you tried with the resolution set to minimum?

Ah, yes. Shift + B helped quite a bit. There's still a delay, but at least the steering is more responsive.

I haven't tried the resolution on the minimum yet, but I have it considerably lower than my monitor's native resolution. At this point I should be seeing an fps boost, but the minimum setting don't seem to make that big of a difference. I guess it's due partially to a lack of optimization.

Press k so you see the "Lua Performance Debug" screen(should be just a single press), there you can see if it's a FPS problem and if it's from graphics or CPU if there is one. Just tell me the values that you see.

Okay, the values below are approximate because they are fluctuating as I try to type them.

(the top left of the screen)
    Vehicle Lua Performance:
    physicsStep: 39.038 ms/s (80 calls per frame) or 0.020 ms/call or 1.616 ms/frame
    graphicsStep: 16.555 ms/s (every frame) or 0.666 ms/frame
    debugDraw: 0.075 ms/s (every frame) or 0.003 ms/frame

    memory usage: 9054 kb
FPS: 25 frames/second (this number won't budge, I seem to be locked at 25fps)

    (the bottom of the screen)
    bodies: 1
    active object ID: 0
    FPS 1600, dts: 0.000500 s, frame delay 2.976 ms, 80 steps

(the graph in the bottom right)
    graph-max 53.04ms
    dt | min:48.4, max:51.5, avg 49.6
    smooth | min 49.2, max 49.6, avg 49.4
    beamng | min:2.9, max4.6, avg 3.4

A lot of the problem seems to be due to being in windowed mode. As soon as I go into fullscreen I get a much better framerate and the delay is less.
This windowed-mode-lag happens for me in Minecraft too...

Also, is there some sort of "dynamic braking" feature like there is dynamic steering?
The brakes apply with little delay, but they take a few seconds to actually release, same with the parking brake.

There is a "dynamic" thing for everything like you said. Shift+B only disables steering. I might make something to disable it all for wheels.
I don't think it's FPS lag or any sort, I have about the same values and mine is fine; except my "frame-delay" is about 30ms, I'm not sure how much that affects though.
About the 25FPS: I think nearly everyone has that, but it doesn't look to be 25FPS, I don't know what it's supposed to be. Mine says 25FPS, but looking at the framedelay and frametime it's not 25FPS

The 25 seems to be inaccurate. I lowered my resolution all the way and was getting 60 fps, yet it still said 25.

I've noticed not so much that the input is delayed, rather what's being displayed is delayed.
The engine sound is spot on with my gas pedal, but it takes a second or so for the RPMs to actually match the pedal and sound.

Hopefully in the next update some of these wrinkles will get ironed out!

You have to make this setting to lowest

click options and find these on graphics tab

    Mesh:lowest
    Texture:lowest
    Lighting:lowest
    Shader:lowest

you will see fps and response time rocketed

I have exactly the same problem. Steering is unbearable and shift+b is only reducing the lag almost to the half but still annoying.

The 25 FPS is the LUA performance. Press Ctrl+F to see the real FPS, along with a bunch of other stuff. None of the debug modes AFAIK shows graphical FPS (Debug modes 1-12)

Hmmmm....when I press Shift+B and I go into ~console, it says "Fatal LUA error: failure to recall nil value toggle dynamic steering" or something similar, so basically for me Shift+B doesn't do anything. I notice now that its mentioned the steering lag, I press the button and it takes a second for it to turn the wheels. id rather have instantaneous steering, so corrections can be made quicker without the lag. Ill get a screenie now so you see what my console looks like. Any ideas? (sorry to threadjack but came across this one cuz I searched for the dynamic steering...yes I used the search bar....amazing little thing, it is)

    edit:::
heres a cropped screenie (so as not to take up 24 feet of thread)
