Today, I got a new machine. This one has a 6th generation Core i7 running at 2.5 GHz, while my old one had a 3rd(?) gen i7 running at a comparable frequency. Both rely on integrated graphics to render BeamNG. When I started up BeamNG.drive on the new machine, it ran at 1336x768 on overall "Normal" settings quite a bit faster than the old machine could run it... on lower settings... at 800x600. So, is Intel finally ramping up their graphics game? The new Intel HD performance isn't GTX 980 tier, but it's damn impressive.
Damn. Mine's a mobile Skylake, so I guess I'm doing pretty good. One problem though: I have one of those high-DPI displays (or Retina, as the Apple fans call it), so applications that aren't designed for high resolution (like Steam) end up looking like Undertale. Is there any way around this, or am I stuck waiting for Gaben to give us hi-res Steam?
You can get a skin for Steam. There are probably skins that do better with higher resolution screens.
They are definitely getting better but I wouldn't say catching up since video cards are also improving.
