I haven't made any content for this game yet, so chances are this wouldn't be a first project. But, my hope was to make a map that's a small planet to drive around on. So essentially just a sphere, but the gravity needs to be a vector field or an equation based on position. Does anyone know if this is possible? Maybe as a mod and not a component of the map? Also, first post so hopefully I didn't do anything wrong Thanks for any help
Hello! It is a very good idea! I already have this idea but it seemed so crazy, I never ask this question... I hope you will have an answer!
The title of your thread just made me think of a spawnable, scaled-down black hole. That would be cool as shit, watching the torque of your chose vehicle fight with the pull of a black hole. Should be able to adjust the amount of force it brings, as well as the radiation of the force
Right now this is impossible. The gravity can only be in the up/down direction. It could be done, but every feature that is added to the core, slows it down. There is a tremendous amount of effort going into adding features in the core with the minimal overhead. But the features need to be justified and have wide usage. Otherwise, if they see little use, the % of users they affect negatively (even by a little) weights more than the % of users that use the feature. Nevertheless, we have already thought about gravity gradients (gravity should also get reduced the further one gets away from the center of the planet), and also think this is a cool feature. Right now we have decided to not support a feature like this, but we might change our mind in the future. No promises tho.
It's totally doable... in fact it had been done way back in RoR as a personal patch. However Estama explains perfectly why it either would or wouldn't be added... but it's still nifty to see what it would look like.
Alright. That's a point well received, as it probably wouldn't be used very often. I hope that it somehow finds its way into the core later though, only because I think it would be super cool. Keep fighting the good fight.
