I just wanted to give some huge props and thanks for creating this level. Everything in it is unbelievably good. I haven't had as much fun in a long time as I do when running the main loop around the island with the race spec Nissan, while trying for the best lap times. Every bump, dip, bank, pothole, road patch, and rut makes the level feel like a real road. The way the road is washed out in places makes it feel tied to the environment around it. It's just so satisfying feeling the car react to each imperfection and being able to predict exactly (once memorized) how each bump will affect the car at high speed. Never have I played another car game with this level of detail. All of the roads are fantastic as well. The dirt paths make this level truly shine. The first time I was driving them, I really felt a sense of exploration. They just kept going and going with little surprises hidden around. The paths through the creeks, the wooden bridges, and the washouts (even that really devious one on the high path) are great additions. I could literally go on and on about how good it is. I like the other levels as well, but this map is in a league of its own. The views are breathtaking, and the level design and road placement is brilliant. Thanks for all the work you guys have put into this level, and the game itself too. I can't wait to see what the finished game will be like.
I agree, it's a pretty level with a few interesting places to visit with nice vistas. it'll be fun trying to drive the semi with a fully loaded trailer attached down those narrow bumpy tracks (when trailers are added).
Absolutely agree! I literally logged in just now in order to make a comment along the lines of this thread. It's pretty clear that a lot of thought went into the road details of Jungle Rock:, curves, cambers, pot holes, the whole deal! And the scenery perfectly complements it all. It seems kind of silly, but I've even couldn't fight the urge to pull off some of the several scenic overlooks and just stop to look. So far my favorite section is with the Covet Rally going straight down the hill at the point you initially spawn. I just keep on the road in the same direction I spawned (without taking any turns at intersections) and keep going all the way to where the road ends at the "enchanted forest". I haven't timed how long it takes, but it's several minutes of intense driving. The washouts, hairpins with cliffs, landslide over half the road, and the perfect jump in the road along the way are absolutely great! I almost feel I need a co-driver to call the turns along the way. I was sad when the road ended, but cant wait till the devs finish the next session. Devs, PLEASE don't change what you have on this section so far, it's perfect! Devs, please know that your work on this map is appreciated! - - - Updated - - - Just did my favorite run in the Covet after the 4.0.5 update. Epic guys! Absolutely epic! I'm going to have to get the helicopter to explore the rest of the island.
I am still incapable of understanding the reason behind 'replacing' Dry Rock Island with this map. Especially, since those two are nothing alike. And because of the fact that Dry Rock Island is my favourite map besides Grid Map. What was the reason for such a decision anyways?
I backed the decision when it was proposed, because DRI runs at a miserable 25fps even on a GTX970, JRI was developed from DRI (through a long and iterative design process which sees it now unrecognisable), DRI's roads are not particularly realistic, safe, easy or fun to drive on, and finally JRI represents such a leap in visual quality that DRI no longer compares very well. First impressions are important, and with the corresponding Steam release we couldn't risk having users start up DRI and conclude that the game is unplayable even on good hardware. Still, for those who want to relive the "bad old days", DRI will be downloadable from the repository once it's ready.
I've played on Jungle Rock Island but my integrated graphics card hates trees with a passion Dry Rock Island actually ran decently, and so does Small Island. I lag on Hirochi Raceway though literally because of only the trees (even with shadows and lighting on Lowest). Any map without trees generally runs well. There should be an option to turn down the quality of trees so I could enjoy the map without having to go to solid bottom Lowest settings.
Glad to see others like it as much as I do. I'm doing my best to hold off on playing until it gets fully completed, but its so hard.
