...because I was driving a police car with sirens on and some jackass decided to stop for my sirens IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I thought I had room to fit through a gap, clipped his car, broke a halfshaft and came to a stop. Also doing those deliveries has reminded me how bugged automatic transmissions are and why I never use them. They really love to shoot up into 127th gear for no good reason while you're driving before realizing I want to drive in a usable gear. I wish devs would make that a high priority to fix.
To be fair, that’s how automatic transmissions work. They don’t know what you’re going to do, they know what you’re doing right then. They’re also designed to maximize fuel economy, so they go into the highest reasonable gear. Modern transmissions are just better at reacting to what you’re trying to do and letting you actually do it. Older transmissions didn’t have as advanced of technology and electronics, nor did they shift as quickly. This makes them significantly more sluggish.
Yeah imperfect aspects of imperfect cars are what makes this game so realistic compared to others. Making a car that behaves perfect at all times would be too easy. Making one that messes up in the same way real life cars do takes the skills.
As someone who has driven 400+ miles in Garage to Garage, I feel your pain. Unfortunately, the AI is something you can't really "fix" and if AI messes up my run, I just switch to freeroam and switch back. So far that hasn't lost me any progress or given me a fail.
