Will this game/engine/simulator be able to run in Linux?

Torque3D doesn't have a linux port so eventually it cannot.

Yeah the port T3d to linux campaign didn't go so well. It kind of surprised me actually, that would have been a big step for a larger linux scene imo. You never know though; it could happen some day :)

Has it also not been ported to OSX?

This sounds like it's (RoR) going to suffer the same fate that Nexuiz had happen to it when the community took it over and made Xonotic. :L

really? are you serious? Rigs of Rods did not crap out because of the community, it's because it's dated, and the devs of BeamNG saw the need for perfection and improvement. I'm pretty sure if this software is going to be commercial, that won't happen.

Also, way to be offtopic -_-

kind of a shame, really. I alternate between linux and windows, so it looks like I'm going to need to keep a running version of windows handy.

This is not off topic, you said exactly what I was stating. Nexuiz did not crap out because of the community. Nexuiz was heavily dated, then the developer of it made it into a commercial version on the Xbox360, the community loved the open source version and the freedom, so when Nexuiz went commercial, developers from the Nexuiz community kept developing it and it eventually turned into a much more advanced game, which we now know as Xonotic. I am just expressing how I feel, and am not saying that it will indefinitely turn out the same way.

I did work for Xonotic when all of that went down and what I heard was very different, especially to what has happened here. From what I understand about Nexuiz (which was a fairly high profile open source game) the name got sold out from under the community to a developer to make a commercial multiform game. I really don't think anybody would have cared if they had called it something other than Nexuiz.

I know what happened because I was there, I used to love that game, the developer of Nexuiz went AWAL then came back a few months later bringing the news about the commercialization and people flipped, and essentially that's how Xonotic was created. The point of this all is that this should be cross platform, some way, some how, even with WINE, so that the community does not get skewed in the process.

    edit: Added link to WineHQ

I don't understand why they abandoned Ogre3D. It's the most complex, open source, cross-platform graphics engine as far as i know. Ogre3D v1.8 looked a lot more mature to me than Torque v1.2 when i look into both of their code.

Because Ogre is not a game engine, just a graphics engine. To get a working game in Ogre you'd have to code everything from scratch that Torque and other engines already come with.

I have just remembered that there is a non-native way of packaging in Ubuntu. If you examine the way team viewer works on Ubuntu, it has a dependency of wine, and just uses the windows executable, but fluently hides that it's not native. Could this be a way that BeamNG works on Linux if the Linux-Torque3D kickstarter does not get finished at time of this being released?

Sadly this game is based on a windows-only technology.
Nevertheless i wish the devs the best luck with it - its everything i ever wanted when finished!
What a pitty i will never be a proud customer due to restriction on a single operating system. :(

I would pay for this game if they would have Linux support (and if you do, do it good, make a few rpms and debs).. I run Linux only, and though I love the demo videos, I won't install windows on my machines for just this.

If any dev is watching, please, yes, Linux actually can and will have a viable gamers community, but then first game devs will have to start supporting it! You give Linux support, I will buy my copy! :)

I think T3D4 is going to have native linux support.
They said v4 was supposed to be out by the end of summer, right now they are still working on v3, though...

I would love to have the whole thing working on Linux (Linux is my primary desktop).

Our main constraints for having it work natively in Linux are for Torque3D to be ported to Linux and the time/effort required from us to port/test the whole codebase.
