Played the game with at least 40 fps and then took a break for a month or so. When I started again I now only get around 10 fps and can no longer play the game because of this.

It is really difficult to make educated guesses with so little data available and random guessing is not helping you at all.

What is different from month ago, did you have same game version than month ago?

    Computer specs?

Do you play anything else, is it running same way as before, what other games?

As a complete random guess I would throw, power settings or cooling fan issues.

Without details about what you have been doing on your PC within the time you haven't been playing Beamng.drive, I cannot figure out what your issue is.

I would say that you probably lost space on your PC by downloading other games or just filling it up with a whole bunch of junk. To fix it, I would suggest clearing your PC off to the way it was when you were playing it before and either deleting things or putting them in an online drive.

Amount of free space probably does not cause fps to drop from 40 to 10.

For me just clearing out my Recycle Bin gave me back 3 Gb and now Beamng works better than ever. Don't know how.

That is really weird, maybe you had very low on free disk space? That is only thing I can think of what could have the effect, usually amount of free space if not really really low, affects only to loading times and even that is not very big effect.

It might be coincidence too, perhaps something happened same time which you are unaware of, which had such effect on Beam, sometimes butterfly flaps it wings and weird things happens.
