I have noticed lots of the maps lack grit and grime, and other smaller features. For example, lets use the gas station on the Hirochi Raceway. It terrible so bad compared to the ones on West Coast or Johnson Valley, the gas stations on west Coast look so realistic and gritty they could hold up against AAA games, but the one on the Hirochi Raceway looks worse than games from the 2000s. Hirochi Raceway: - Concrete slab with a gas station using materials that look worse than GTA 3 West Coast: - Realistically dirty and grimy - Good looking pumps and EV Chargers with adverts -Trash and other debris - Realistic section where the gas is pumped into the underground tank Solution: Now there are many spots on BeamNG's maps maps that look terrible compared to this. The main problem you will notice is that BeamNG lacks a lot of grim and decay. Honestly this could easily be solved if the devs added more decals that could be applied into the corners of buildings and sidewalk. Almost every map could benefit from this, including West Coast. Hope the devs consider this as they are clearly fully caplible of making realistic grit and grim, and prettier models and textures. I know this is a car game, but the maps need some improvement.
I feel like in the same way I complained about WCU when it released (and even way after that) is that the map biomes dont feel realistic, with the exception of Italy, everything feels disjointed. Big city blocks next to chinatown next to the hood next to the ocean in WCU, or the small town right off the highway and a fuel station in the middle of nowhere, or the Utah map and its buildings scattered around alone. Hirochi raceway is by far one of the earliest map, even counting the remaster/refresh, and it suffers the most of that.
I agree, many maps dont have good flow. In my opinion the west coast map has some of the best design, its only 4km squared but it feels so much bigger. Other maps that size feel tiny, like east coast. East coast has literally nothing, making it feel small. It hasn’t got much logic to the layout. West coast feels illogical if you zoom out, but it feels right when drivibg around it. The city could use an expansion though, it really could benefit from it to create more flow.
I completely agree, albeit I think that a good driving game needs downtime with empty roads to give the world some realism. That's why I think ECU was done better. I've always stated that the best ways to fix WCU was to make it a 4x4, put the track in a separate map, and fill the new empty space with realistically designed city blocks. Make it look and feel like a proper city, big enough for anyone to ACTUALLY get lost in.
The only reson I say ECA is worse, is because the roads are very boring, not many super windy roads to slow the player down. But on wca Belasco, even though all the roads are straight, they are so hilly it makes the map feel bigger.
