I mostly use the orbit camera, but since the camera orbits around the center of the car you end up seeing a lot of the road behind the car when driving around. I made a simple mod to change the Z position for the external camera using the "additional modification slot", but it would be nice to have it as a setting in the game so it works globally for all cars and in scenarios. I would suggest sliders for the X/Y/Z positions of the external camera and also for the distance and tilt, much like the fov settings. Could be under an advanced settings tab? Also, being able to change the stick sensitivity would be great. Thanks. Original: Modded:
Hey. How did you make this modification? What files did you change? I also want to make the height angle bigger, but I didn’t understand what values to change in which files. Or can you share your modification? .
Hi. The value to change is the "cameraExternal" offset Z value in the jbeam for the frame or chassis. It's in the cars zip file: Changing it to 0.8 to 1 looks pretty good to me. The easiest way to do it is to first save the jbeam file into a folder, for example "racetruck_chassis.jbeam". Then change the z value. Then drag it into the zip file replacing the original. The problem with this is that updates tend to revert the changes. The mod I made that uses the additional modification slot has some other problems, main one is you can't use it in scenarios, not all cars have that slot either. But I'll attach it here anyway. It doesn't have all the cars in it, but most pre 0.27. I've been meaning to make it a decent mod and release it, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
So you changed the parameters of the camera position in the files of the chassis and car frames. I kept trying to change the orbit camera files directly, but to no avail. Thanks a lot for your advice. I myself am waiting for the developers to finally add the ability to raise and lower the camera orbit in Z position. It's very easy to do and I don't understand why this feature hasn't been added yet. Nonsense
Don't do this. Ever. Tinkering with game files can result with broken features in the future. Instead, use the mods/unpacked folder – you can have all your modded files in one folder (as long as you follow the folder structure). And if something goes wrong, your original files remain untouched.
It just changes one value, and If the game gets updated the file gets overwritten so I doubt it would break anything. But a better way to do it would be to maybe put the same file in the mods folder?
