Just as you would hold down the CTRL key in order to highlight multiple file files selected by a single left click in a windows file list, selecting multiple vehicles is possible, intuitive, and best of all, simple. It's true purpose is to be able to spawn multiple vehicles easily and swiftly.

The big question is making the preset selection just as finesse. My thoughts were that, upon holding CTRL and clicking the first vehicle, the UI will select the default vehicle preset, but upon hovering over the highlighted vehicle, it will lay out a clean, compact list of the vehicles presets over the vehicles thumbnail that can be scrolled through easily with the mouse wheel.

Think of a "slot machine" type list, where only a few (3-5) presets of all presets of the selected vehicle will be listed on the screen at a time, and the middle preset is the selected one. As you scroll through, the currently visible presets will cycle through the rest of the off-screen presets alphabetically. Conversely, we should be able to choose between a compact (text only, no thumbs) and full (text and thumbs, probably can't be fitted over vehicle thumb itself at this point).

You can always scroll by going upward/downward with your mouse if you don't have one. The same would follow for every other selected vehicle. If you're content with the default preset, or simply don't care, you can go about your way and select multiple vehicles. Once your mouse is no longer hovering over a selected/highlighted vehicle thumbnail, the preset selection menu fades out.

Bump because this picture explains it alot easier than just plain text. This is what I meant by the slot-style scrolling.
