Maybe you can press G1 because it activates other gearbox mode
(i have a gaming keyboard)

Make sure you are shifting gears - try 'Arcade' mode (press Q). Add the UI app that shows the throttle, brakes, clutch and handbrake - make sure that the brakes aren't on and that the throttle is at 100.
