Every time I go to open Beamng.Drive, my laptop freezes and I have to do a hard shut down. I'm using a new laptop, so I had to download Steam and Beamng again. Is it a problem with my laptop, or the game?

When you laptop freezes, does it do that on a black screen or?

Go to Steam, Right-Click BeamNG.Drive in the library, go to options and then Local Files tab. Press the 'Browse Local Files' button.
Run 'support.exe' in the folder that opens and press the 'Submit Information' button.
    Leave here your ID.

V If a laptop isn't mean for gaming, it doesn't mean it's more prone to crash. Please don't spread wrong informations around..

He states that it crashes when he tries to open BeamNG, so I guess he can't even get to the point of playing.

No. When I double click the desktop shortcut (or open it through Steam), it'll load as if it were opening, but it freezes before the game itself opens. So, I'll just be staring at my homepage instead of a black screen

It could be caused by a RAM error, however, if it were that, it would likely happen even when you aren't trying to game. Another possibility is part of the game (specifically the binary files) could be corrupt, however that should show up for @Nadeox1... Another thing, on occasion, some anti-virus programs will get extremely unhappy with certain programs. I've had things like freezing and forced reboots that ended up being caused by anti-virus software. Out of curiosity, what are the specs of your laptop?

I have no idea what specs are, but I think these are it:
    Processor - Intel(R) Core (TM) i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHz 2.40 GHz
Installed RAM - 8.00 GB (7.76 GB usable)
System Type - 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

My anti-virus is also Comodo... if that helps.

I have a few things for you to try if you don't mind. First, try disabling your anti-virus and running the game (make sure to re-enable if the game still fails to load). Also, try running the game from the directory (the shortcut is through Steam unless you made it yourself).

So, funny thing happened. I went to figure out how to disable it, and there's a game mode option on my anti-virus! I turned it on, ran Beamng, and it works perfectly... besides it lagging every few seconds.

I honestly have no idea what some anti-virus programs have so many problems with some games. As for the lag, press Crtl+F ingame to bring up FPS monitor and pause physics. Does the FPS improve when you pause physics?

Then it's your CPU that is causing the lag. There isn't much you can do about it. Try closing background processes.

TBH I don't think CPU is the bottleneck, it's pretty equal to my desktop i5 4460 in single core performance. Do you have different GPU other than IntelĀ® HD Graphics 4600? And is turbo clock speed enabled?

Check your windows power plan is on high performance not power saver, also get a tool such as HW Monitor and report back on what the CPU temperature is after about 10 minutes of playing.
