Before I put my mods in the mods folder I have the steam version and when I put my mods in the mods folder I start the game and nothing appears in the mod folder

If you installed them correctly (By putting the ZIP in 'Documents/BeamNG.Drive/mods' (Or anyway by putting them in that folder)) the mods won't disappear. If you installed them in a different way, then it's possible those were moved to the 'Backup' folder in 'Documents/BeamNG.Drive'.

    Possible cause:
    • The mod was assembled wrongly
    • The mod is too old / incompatible by now

If it's from the forum, can you leave a link so I can check it out? (Eventually, have you tried asking on that mod thread for help?)

You haven't said if you checked the 'Backup' folder yet to see if your mods were moved there.
Apart that, BeamNG would not touch anything from the 'mods' folder, so I really wonder where your stuff went..
I'd suggest to just redownload those mods..

Welp, no idea of what happened, but that isn't normal.

Just redownload your mods at this point :\

Which means you installed the mods incorrectly in the first place

That happens only if you install the mods in the game directory instead of Documents/BeamNG.Drive/mods.
