Navigation Editor Help

Im making a map and i was wandering how the navigation editor worked. im very confused.

 

If you set the roads you lay to drivability "1" it allows the ai to use them

 

i tried that and it said when i switched the car to AI mode that it couldnt find any roads. Is there something else i need to do first?
