Hello Guys! Im currently building a drift car which is a Ibishu 200BX LS. I recently swapped the engine to a NA inline 6 which has 308Nm of Torque and 208HP. The car also has quick ratio drift steering, a welded rear diff, sport sway bars on the front and rear, race 6 speed manual trans with a lightened flywheel, race coilovers in the front and back and also has 225/40R17 drift tires on all wheels. The only fine tuning I did was increase the track width a little bit on the car by about 0.01M and had the front camber set to -5 and rear camber set to 0. Could anyone give me a few tips on how to tune the suspension and the rest of the car to be able to drift well? Thanks alot everybody! I really appretiate any feedback and advice!
No, don't reduce grip. Many professional drift cars *ahem* Hoonicorn *ahem* use lower tire pressure and other suspension tweaks to maximize grip. Also, an LSD with high preload is a bit more manageable than a welded diff. Personally, I like 4wd with a 78/22 rear/front split and race tires to accompany a naturally aspirated engine.
Track width not necessary unless wheels rub against the frame. It messes with the scrub values and Ackerman (depending on how increased track width is achieved; if only the wheel offset changes, the hub is moved or the whole front suspension). Not too much camber up front. Full caster though, so that the top part of wheels at full look tilt outwards, reduces risk of the front wheels acting as a pivot point. Toe out at front helps the turn in, but causes a twitchy behavior. Rear is preferably slightly toe in for stability at high speed. Harder sway bars in the rear than the front, same goes for the dampers and springs.
