So, in my dad's stick Focus, the clutch has been out. It had 130k miles on it and it needed to be replaced. So, we went to Autozone and got a whole new clutch set and rear main seal for $230. Pics: DSCN0348.JPG DSCN0349.JPG

You bought a new clutch, well done. How about we all post about each and every time we buy menial things like fuel or replacement bulbs (damn it pisses me off when you see cars driving around with a missing head or tail light, does nobody check them?)

Now, we are trying to install it somewhere or get it done ourselves. Probably by my dad's friend, he can do it for about $60. Not bad. The state of the clutch now is if you putter around at idle, it wouldn't engage until the last minute. My mom probably gave that old clutch a workout since when it slipped, she KEPT HER FOOT IN IT until it engaged again. And she wonders why she smells clutch a mile later. :p But yeah, will update when new clutch is in.

Why would you post here if you aren't even gonna do it yourself?

Come back when your transmission fluid overheats and everything borks up as a result

    Can't happen with manual.

Come back when you need a bump start - not possible on auto
Come back when you strip a gear in an automatic - can skip the broken one on a manual, autos panic and spaz out
Come back when you actually want to drive your car yourself instead of letting the fucking machine drive itself. God manuals are so incredibly boring, performance sapping and fuel economy sapping <- oh wait, thats autos.

Well, I will help. I have literally very little experience with cars. But I will help if I can.

I agree except for the last point almost all modern cars the autos are getting better fuel economy now.

Sadly not the case. Modern autos are better than older autos yes. They don't beat manuals on economy. They are heavier, have higher drive train friction and torque converter losses (even on a locking unit you of course have losses in the unlocked phase). A properly operated manual can always outdo an auto.

Don't forget; it's much more fun driving a manual. (Coming from the person who doesn't like paddle shifter cars in AC because they aren't as engaging.)

Someone needs to give the inventor of the paddle shifter a gigantic slap around the face with a rotten fish
