Now, since it sounds like there will be a few types of train cars, what will be the menu system for selecting train cars?
I had a thought that there could be a"1st car" slot, a "2nd car" slot, and so on, you would simply pick from a list of all available cars for each slot to configure what cars are on the train.

It also may be a good idea to have an extremely simple car, just like a shipping crate, so a longer, heavier train could be made with less performance drop.

That's a good idea, but we are focusing on passenger.

Then again with that, there is much room for glitches...
Say the gain has 2 car slots, the second one is, let's say, a caboose, if you then choose the first car slot to be empty, you could get one of three possible side effects
    1. The game crashes under a vehicle having the JBeam be in two different unconnected parts (never tested it, but it could be considered vehicle instability
    2. You have a magical Caboose that follows your train without any visual connection to the train (without viewing the Jbeam)
    3. (Most likely the best outcome) the Cabooose is left all alone while the train drives away without a care
Look at what happened with the Bullbar and the Off-road bumper on the D series, it's taken the Devs a while now and they still haven't fixed it! (then again, could the bull bar be a hint to a future police D series?)

And, it doesn't matter if the car is simple or detailed, it matters on the JBeam and how complex it is
If you have only 50 JBeams on a car, it's not going to crash well, but it will do slightly better for FPS (at least on my computer)

Someone should do the 'not expensive' train from TopGear (Season 17, Episode 5, I think)

I would love to see a big train that can carry tons of well, tons, frieght cars, and to destroy a car.

So, I had a great idea
What if, when the train is done, there where scenarios like 'set the record run' where you go across the rails as fast as you can without derailing (challenging)
Regular route, deliver the passenger cars on time (normal 40-60 difficulty)
Collision course, avoid the other trains by speeding up or slowing down...
Diagram: (cause this one is a little confusing)
    image.jpeg
So, Red is the start, Yellow/Orange is the end
Grey: track your train is on
Black: other tracks that will have trains come at specific times
White: a slightly hidden track, the blue represents a hill and the dark green is a heavy forest

You adjust the speed to avoid hitting or being hit by trains on the other tracks,
    (Challenging)

    Crossing 'Accident'
A just your speed so that you hit the Pessima at the rail crossing (20-40 difficulty)

    Railroad 'accident'
hit the other train at the intersection! (20-40 difficulty)

good, but I think it needs to be bigger with lots of bridges, stations, tunnels, curves, and crossing.

And first we need a free roam route

Well, that's only a bit for the scenario, that's not the whole map...
I'll make a rough sketch for y'all in a few minutes
    --- Post updated ---
    image.jpeg
    Blue: Water
    Green: land
    Dark Green: Foresty area
    Inside Black Shape: City Limits
Inside orange/yellow Shape: Cargo/Passengar Yard (train station)
White area: Port (train station, will have roads too)
    Grey: Tracks

This is a rough sketch, the scenario in which you avoid the trains will most likely be on a edited (heavily edited) version of this map

I'm new here but I have an idea. What if someone made a hy-rail. You could take the stock d-series and make a mod to give it new bumpers with attached hydraulic powered wheel. Bind each wheelset to a different key for better control.

Very nicely made here. What's an expected release date for this?
