while I was taking a break from my other map I decided to work on a new map, this map is more of a test and learning custom modeling, anyways here's a video of some very basic progress, its not much but I wanted show the custom models I am starting to work on. sorry for the low quality 5/28/17 Update 1 7/2/17 Update 2 7/5/17 Update 3 7/26/17 Update 4
I have made a new model today, it's a very basic gas station. keep in mind these textures are simply place holders.
Those hills back there though... --- Post updated --- Also it's not a good idea to make the roads as one model. Use decal roads
Im deleting the terrain anyways, I can optimize and make a much larger map with models, I am gonna split the the roads into small peices.
I tried my hand at making some custom vegetation for the first time and have a base idea for the first town.
Trying something new with the road models, it works like terrain except it's only where I want it though I can't edit it in game it also needs some work.
Welp Just Found out I deleted the gas station accidentally *Facepalm* It Didn't look that great anyways but im gonna have to redo it.
My hopes are to make really long roads that you can drive on for hours, that is the main reason this map is going to be 100% model based though this is going to take a long time to achieve I hope to learn a lot from this project. The map will consist of towns, highways, roads and other things but like I said its gonna take a while.
More Progress! So I have found a much better way of making terrain, it may take longer but I come out with a better product, I made some better trees. I rendered the leave texture which i'm pretty proud of and now that I know how to do it I should have much easier time getting textures for other trees and bushes. I have also learned how to make seamless textures so getting usable textures will also be much faster, anyways here's the screenshots.
You make the geometry then find textures, then you setup materials in blender or 3d modeling software of choice then do the standard blender texturing process of applying materials to faces then applying those textures to that face in the uv edtior then make a materials.cs, refrence those material names in the materials.cs then export.dae with images if there not already in the folder then use that directory of those image on the .cs preferably in a folder with the models so that way when you decided to release map with them the textures work and whala.
Roads look a bit to smal IMO. Even on small country roads theres place for 1,5 or 2 cars normally ( in width) so if there is a car coming from the other side you can easily pass eachother. On your roads you can just fit 1 car (in width).
Yeah I'm gonna have to start cutting the mesh into multiple models so I can cull out parts that you can't see.
