New to BeamNG, but not sims or real-life racing. With that said, after a week or so I can't seem to figure out a few simple things. I think I have to be missing something. 1). Why does the vehicle search/filter seem completely useless to me? For example, how do I easily find "All RWD vehicles with a manual transmission"? If I set the filters to "None", and then select "RWD" and "Manual", I get nothing. Likewise searching on certain things also doesn't work, returning too many results, odd results, or nothing at all. The only thing that seems to work is to manually deselect everything in every section except those two items... but that is mind-numbingly tedious. I've saved a few custom car setups with names that all begin with my initials ... but again, searching on "CAS" shows unexpected results, if anything.. And once all that is done, why can't I save and recall custom filters and/or searches? At the very least, why do the filters reset every time I go into "Vehicles", and I have to do it all over again? 2). Along those same lines... why isn't there a simple "Favorites" flag for any vehicles or maps? I want to just set a vehicle (custom, stock... anything) as a favorite, and then click a "Favorites" button in the filters and see only those cars. That is the most basic thing there is in every game gui... but I can't find it. 3). Some UI Apps (FPS, CK Graphics, etc) have such tiny fonts that they are completely unreadable. How do I change that font size? (And also, how can we change overall app transparency?) 4). Why does my damage indicator keep randomly dissappearing? Once I break something, it needs to stay up so I can glance at it every now and then. 5). Is there a way to have replays automatically record and stay in a temporary buffer for review, allowing you to save the ones you want (like Assetto Corsa does it, which is ideal). Having to remember to hit "record" every time is a PITA, and of course the stuff you want a replay of only happens when you don't record it. This is all very basic UI stuff, and I guess the game has been around for like 10 years or something? ... so I'm sure I'm missing something. There are definitely a ton of settings to figure out. Thanks for any help!
The only thing I can help you with is the first point you made, as all the other points would need features that BeamNG does not currently have (unless I'm also missing something, lol). For using the filter feature, I was able to filter for RWD manual cars, but you have to enable "Expand configurations" and uncheck everything in the section except for the one you want. For example, if you want to filter for all RWD cars, go to the drivetrain drop-down section of the filters, and deselect everything except for RWD. Do this without clicking "None". This is kind of a weird way to do it, but I can't find any other way. The reason selecting "None" doesn't work is because it deselects other things that, if not checked, will not show any vehicles... For finding your custom configurations, make sure that "Include custom .PC configurations", and "Expand configurations" is enabled above the filter menu. You should then be able to search for your custom configs. Hope that helps...
Thanks. I was hoping it was just me missing something obvious. Would it be so hard to add "shift + click on any checkbox toggles everything on or off in that section"... instead of having to manually check or uncheck every box... like every UI has had for 20 years? That would at least help a little. --- Post updated --- The physics and approach to this game are brilliant... but I get the feeling that it is being developed by a bunch of young engineer types, that may not be the best at basic software usability and UI design. Or maybe I'm just old and cynical. I wrote my first computer program in 1980, and was around years later when micro$oft spent 6 million to figure out the best way to design an interface for human interaction. I still agree with that study, in spite of hardly anyone following it anymore. There is a lot of potential here, and it's a lot of fun to race (?) a vehicle around a free-roam map with somewhat realistic consequences for mistakes. Being that it is one of the highest rated sims/games after 10 years but is still in "alpha"... does the beta version come out in 2035 or so? I'm wayyyy to old to be around for that. LOLOL
