Seems odd that there isn't one. The brake is currently tied to the reverse gear, which make it impossible to stop & hold without putting it in the park gear.

I know that, but that's not a proper fix. I prefer automatics anyway.

And even if you're in manual, holding down the brake/reverse key doesn't stop the car entirely.

2 posts above me explains everything. I do agree with you though, when you're in Automatic shifter move it's impossible to come to a complete stop unless you want a wall to help you :D Before the vehicle has come to a full stop, it already goes into reverse automatically. My suggestion to the devs is to allow you to hold the car on it's brakes if you hold the brake. If you want to reverse, you would need to release the brakes and brake again for the vehicle to go in reverse gear. So brake > stop > release brake > brake again > reverse. This would be much more practical

    Welcome to the real simulator.
You must change the gear to neutral and hold down brake button to stop the car entirely.
Normally when you will brake in first gear and stop the car, your engine should turn off but for now you just drive very very slowly.

I would like to see the ability to stall cars in the future. I wonder if that's planned

And...you didn't read the original post.

The parking brake is not the same as the wheel brakes i.e. what engages when you press the brake pedal.

And, like said before, put it in neutral gear.

Pressing Q does work and if you want it to fully stop you have to either shift into neutral or hold down the clutch (Shift key)

Yes in one of the threads I seen Gabester said there will be a engine stalling/stopping feature and is planned.

I'd like it to be like this: When in automatic gearbox, if you press the brake pedal, the car stops and stays still, just like in real life. On a real car with automatic transmission you have to put it in reverse to go backwards , it doesn't go backwards if you just push the brake pedal - and I think that's how it should be in BeamNG. But if they want to keep reverse and brake on the same button, I agree with the person above me. Double-tap for reverse.

When the gearbox gets tweaked in the future, this will get fixed.

As far as I've heard from the devs, the plan is to simulate the gearboxes like they are in real life. That means an automatic transmission will have the following gears(slightly dependent on the car, hopefully it can be as diverse as possible):
    -Park
    -Reverse
    -Neutral
    -Drive
    -2nd
    -1st
(And that would be the case regardless of wheither or not your game is in full manual mode or whatever, so no manual shifting in an automatic car).

You would shift between those gears manually. In that case, without pressing the brake, the car will crawl forward in gear. If you press the brake it stops. With a manual it would press the clutch when braking when in 'manual with auto clutch', and you'd stall it if you don't press the clutch while braking when in 'full manual'.
I think the plan is to have 2 'full-auto' modes. For one of them an automatic car would just behave normal(ie with PRND21), and on a manual car you would just have a throttle and a brake and manual shifting between forwards and backwards, but automatic shifting between 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.
Then the other 'full-auto' mode would be very arcady, like it is now, where you'd just have a forward and backwards button, completely regardless of wheither the car is a manual or an automatic...

I've written a script before that simulates manual and automatic transmissions almost properly. Works somewhat okay, but not perfect. Basically, the way I had it set up... You had a realistic transmission mode(auto when it's automatic, full manual otherwise), a realistic mode with auto clutch(auto when it's an automatic, and manual with auto clutch otherwise), and an always-automatic mode. Worked real nicely, though I couldn't quite get the torque converter thing working... I never got round to making it in a way where you'd both have an arcade automatic and a 'normal' automatic.

So long story short, yes, this will be fixed in the future :p
