Nvidia SHIELD "detected", no GUID

Hello. I just got an Nvidia SHIELD hooked up and running with my PC and wanted to use it with BeamNG.

Upon launching, I opened up the terminal and looked for it's gamepad GUID (so I can create an inputmap). It says nothing about a gamepad of any sort, only mouse and keyboard. HOWEVER, debug screen 10 ingame (input debugging) shows all the thumbsticks, triggers, and buttons being recognized just fine as "gamepad0".

So, how would I be able to map "gamepad0" with no GUID to actions in BeamNG? This is why we need a normal button mapping screen!

I can also upload screenshots/console outputs if needed.

Once again, the console and log shows nothing of any joystick or gamepad. Specifically:

    Code:
    26.615894|no joysticks or gamepads detected.
and then continues to load just the mouse and keyboard inputmaps.

    EDIT: Screenshots attached

Are you really sure that Windows sees the controller?

The shield isn't really a "Controller", its a full android device, hence why you might be having the problems. Games might have to have Shield support built in just even to use the controller part of the whole system.

No, Windows doesn't see it as a separate device at all in the device manager or the game controller setup screen. However, basically every windows program can recognize it's inputs as, say, "x360.ltrigger". That's what I'm wondering: if BeamNG can just read inputs (Because it CAN, as you see) instead of associating silly input map files.

It can also read the onscreen keys, but that's no fun

Try looking for custom drivers, Im sure someone out there has made them specifically for using the shield as a controller. Just need to right click and "choose driver".

But like I said, its not a controller, windows more likely sees it as a phone, if it did see it at all in the first place.

It also might be an Nvidia failsafe. Forcing games to get the Shield licence off them for people to use it

Hmm, couldn't find any mods or software to use the Shield as a seperate physical controller in Windows. Right now, it's just a bunch of HID devices with no coresponding names and various drivers. These themselves are handled by the gamestream backend process (nvbackend.exe or whatever), which does all the dirty streaming work.

So getting a driver or mod to make the shield's controller get a GUID would be hard. What wouldn't be very hard (and I really don't mean to be THAT pushy) is to have a seperate config screen/file that just uses raw inputs (as seen in screenshot 2) to map the controls.

Should I even just go fire this in the suggestions section?

No because improved input configuration is already a planned feature, it just hasn't been done yet. No point suggesting what is already planned and what has been suggested before (search box)

Yeah, I guess it'd just be best to wait a couple updates. Especially with the race updates new UI. That might just get a brand new key binding screen.

I think its a case of slidenodes and sound overhaul in that although its planned we might have to wait awhile. Probably won't be race update.

Meh I like the 360 controller I got, It glows lights up my keyboard when Im not using it and the lights are off $19. Pure controller, instead of one made to be portable. I think it was worth it for the very few games I use it with

:p Yes, however the Shield has game streaming capabilities, meaning that you can play any PC game on ITS screen and controller (or BT controller) anywhere in your house. And if you have a good internet connection, you can play your PC games anywhere else with wifi!

iPhone 5s has a slower processor then other phones, but its 64-bit and destroys everything else (unfortunately) performance wise, 64-bit really does more then increases the max amount of ram.

iOS ran just fine on 32-bit..... Now imagine 64-bit shield, which Nvidia already more or less confirmed.

Getting xPadder should do the trick for you, just map it to the keys until we have Shield Support officially.

Bump and a half, but as we're here:
It doesnt do anything other than increase max amount of RAM, increase number of registers available and allow native handling of 64 bit integer math.
