Well people, I figured I'd make a thread where people can rank official maps in BeamNG.Drive made by the dev team from favorite to least favorite. By the way, The map rankings for the top 7 maps in my opinion can vary, the bottom 2 can vary as well, and the template map doesn't count for this ranking. Also, if you disagree with my rankings. That is totally fine. By the way, no offense towards the devs. Anyways, let's begin this ranking. 1. East Coast USA (favorite) 2. Utah USA 3. West Coast USA 4. Italy 5. Hirochi Raceway 6. Derby Arenas 7. Automation Test Track 8. Industrial Site 9. Jungle Rock Island 10. Small Island USA 11. ETK Driver Experience Center 12. Gridmap 13. Port 14. Cliff 15. Grid Small Pure (least favorite) I do not hate Grid Small Pure at all. I just don't care that much for that map and I just don't consider as good as some of the other maps. Anyways, feel free to post your own rankings for official Beamng maps from best to worst. Just don't harass anyone or go off-topic. Also, I love BeamNG Drive and the devs have put work into these maps and I like just about every BeamNG.Drive map and I'm glad that the devs are continuing to improve this game.
İ would change 14 and 15. Grid small, pure is great for top speed testing whereas cliff is just for crashing cars which you can do it in every map
Fair enough I do think the bottom 2 can vary depending on which mood I'm in. Grid Small Pure is quite good for top speed testing, but Cliff is just okay in my opinion. Anyways, the devs have done good work on all of these maps.
Right now Utah is my favorite, it's a beautiful map after the redesign and those underground tunnels are awesome, we need underground features in more maps. WCUSA and Italy are then tied for second favorite. I like WCUSA but I agree with most people's opinions that it would've been better off being split in two or being larger, and performance isn't as good as other maps. Italy is another beautiful map and the larger size is a huge upgrade over maps like ECUSA which just feel too small. Hirochi and Automation are also tied for me. They are both fun race tracks; Automation center has always been pretty and Hirochi is looking nice after it's remaster. Both maps have unique features (Automation is the only official map with snow, which actively annoys me, and has the dam. Hirochi has the crawler area and oval). I really hope to see more maps like them, maybe a historic variation of Hirochi raceway and an abaondoned track. It's nice to have full race tracks in our car game. ECUSA is next. The remaster did wonders for it, it's got a lot of variety and looks nice, but it feels so small. ETK center is next. It frustrates me that this map is so limited, it needs a perimeter track or something. Small Island: Fun map, but not much reason to play it right now. JRI: It use to be a nice map, but it feels now what DRI felt like when this came out. I can't imagine much will be salvagable for it's remaster. It's not a bad map, but it shows it's age worse than most of the old maps. Industrial: Pretty much the same feeling as JRI. It's a cool map but shows it's age badly. Like JRI, the remaster will be tricky since if they touch the small race tracks it'll ruin retro-compatibility, which they are trying to avoid. Yet, just look at them... Can't really imagine them in a current map. Gridmap: It doesn't get updated as often as it should and by sandbox standards it's empty, but it's fun to mess around in. Derby Arena. If it wasn't for the Realistic Derby mod I wouldn't find demo derbies fun in game since none of the official cars can be spec'd for derbys. The big 8 track is fun though. After the remaster this map looks fine, though before the remaster it was bad. Cliff: It's just a cliff. At least it's unique. I imagine a remaster of this would make it more like Leap of Death in that it could have a ramp off the top and a challenging trail back to the top, in which case it would be a fairly cool map. Port: I'm not even sure why this is still in game between the port on Italy and WCUSA and what was not removed from Industrial. Replacing this with a large full sized port/industrial area would be really cool though. Maybe throw in an abandoned town. Reference Gymkhana 9. Pure grid: When I want a pure grid I just go outside the walls of grid.
Alright, I'm guessing that Grid Small Pure is your least favorite official BeamNG map right? By the way, I really like Utah to, especially after that recent update. As for East Coast USA, I think the map could be somewhat bigger and I don't think the new lighting looks that great on it, but I still really like East Coast USA and West Coast USA despite their flaws. I also like Jungle Rock Island and Industrial Site, but I do think that they need updates badly. I really like Derby Arenas. I don't have the demo derby mod, but I do use the official cars and the Olds fullsize mod for demo derbys on that map.
Kinda lazy so I'm just gunna say my favourite since I seem to be in the minority for this one. Jungle Rock Island, it has the best drift routes hands down. Combine the road layout with all the bumbs, it demands good suspension setup but is soo much fun to link the entire map. Even more so, getting a 200bx to drift well here is oh so very satisfying.
By the way, my thoughts on Utah USA, East Coast USA, West Coast USA, and Italy can vary on certain days.
I can't really rank all of the maps but I can definitely say what my favorite is. Small Island USA. This was the map I first played back in 2013 when I got the game the first time, and was also the most fun I've had in a video game in years. Every part of that map is so perfect.
I do think Small Island USA needs an update and it's not my favorite map, but I do think it's a decent map.
By the way, I was just driving around Industrial Site and despite it being outdated. I actually really like the vibe of that map. I should have ranked it a bit closer to 1 on my ranking list.
1. East Coast USA 2. Jungle Rock Island 3. West Coast USA 4. Italy 5. Utah 6. Automation New Zealand 7. Hirochi Raceway 8. Industrial Site 9. Derby Arenas 10. ETK Proving Ground Germany 11. Small Island USA 12. Port 13. Grid Map (the one with stuff on it) 14. Cliff 15. Small Grid Map (the one without stuff on it)
I think people are missing the point of grid map and pure grid map: Those maps are meant for extensive vehicle testing..... not for joy driving. Why do you think grid map has all those suspension and other testing stuff? Meanwhilegrid pure is perfect to test driving physics as you are not limited by road lenght and beam. On what other map can you test potential overheating issues of at 330 km/h? On what other map can you compare car performance this good where there is no obstacles, inclines and anything else that might effect test results? Grid maps are also loaded pretty fast... perfect if you just want to test something quickly.
I don't 100% agree with your list, but it feels like you are giving your honest opinion which is good You make a very good point there.
1. East Coast USA 2. West Coast USA 3. Small Island USA 4. Italy 5. Automation Test Track 6. Utah USA (I haven’t got a chance to try the remastered version yet, so this may change.) 7. Grid Map 8. Jungle Rock Island 9. Industrial Site 10. ETK Driver Experience Center 11. Hirochi Raceway 12. Port 13. Cliff 14. Derby Arenas 15. Grid Small Pure
Again, it really feels like the people on here are giving their honest opinion. I may not 100% agree with their rankings of maps, but different choices people make of their map rankings really keeps this thread interesting. By the way, here's something odd. I actually think Industrial Site is slightly better then Jungle Rock Island. I actually kinda like the vibe of Industrial Site. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Jungle Rock Island isn't great or anything like that. I just think that Industrial Site is slightly better because I like the vibe of that map a bit more then I do Jungle Rock Island.
1. Utah (forever in my heart, no matter if it's revamped or old version) 2. Italy 3. East Coast USA 4. West Coast USA 5. Hirochi Raceway 6. Automation Test Track 7. Grid Map 8. Small Island USA 9. Jungle Rock Island 10. Industrial Site 11. Port 12. ETK Driver Experience Center (there is not enough stuff for testing, like suspension test, high banked test track, small "never ending wet corner" etc.) 13. Derby Arenas 14. Grid Small Pure 15. Cliff
Okay, I do agree that Grid Map is a very good map for testing cars, but I like joy riding in BeamNG.drive more then I like testing cars. Don't get me wrong, testing cars can be really fun sometimes, but I don't like Grid Map as much as some of the other maps. I do like Grid Map, but I personally think that Small Island USA is better. That said, I think Small Island USA does need an update soon.
