Guys, let's just take a moment to address the elephant in the room here... one that has existed since the age of RoR and has yet to be acknowledged, and it still bugs me to no end. I mean, has it become so irrelevant that nobody even questions it? Seriously, is it overwhelmingly difficult to add a sound for driving on dirt or grass? I'm not saying that the game isn't absolutely phenomenal as it is, especially with the new suspension creaking and glass shattering, but this is long, long overdue in my opinion. Driving offroad feels so empty and unsatisfying without the crackling of dirt and gravel underneath, and the experience would be vastly improved if it were to be implemented. So who else agrees that it's time to just get this small, tiny tweak out of the way once and for all?
With a small Loan of a milllion Dollar you can build a Time machine and travel to the Year 2023. Your Problem is solved.
... why be like that. First off this is entirely possible to have surface sounds, and I also feel that when a tire is popped it should sound like you are driving with one after the fact.
Yeah, ha ha, very funny, but be serious I mean, I know that there are people who don't mind the absence of sound when driving on dirt, perhaps because they assume it would be annoying, but with the suspension sounds added in it seems like people would be annoyed by that more than dirt. I just want to know why nobody ever questioned this because it seems kind of obvious. It's such a small insignificant change, but so was the suspension creaking, and it made it so much better to drive around and run over bumps and such. Having the dirt crackling would be a much-appreciated improvement and make it more satisfying to ditch the asphalt and go exploring.
it's been so unquestioned that there have been threads on it before. the sound system is placeholder and planned for replacement/overhaul
Well hopefully the devs get to a point where they can comfortably stop working on more important features of the game and find the time to take a microphone and go on a trip to record these sounds. I'm not going to rush the devs, I'm just hoping that it hasn't been forgotten completely. If it hasn't, then that's a good thing, and now the argument can be laid to rest Another thing that might improve the game a bit, if only slightly, would probably be that slow, crackly rolling noise that happens when you creep at slow speeds on asphalt. GTA V has this, and it seems like all that needs to be done is to play the sound until a certain point, then merge it with the cruising sound at higher speeds, like an idle sound except it depends on the rotation of the tires rather than the RPM range. Every little tiny noise has a huge impact. Remember the exhaust clinking in GTA when the engine was turned off? That was awesome! It seems so insignificant but it just adds to the enjoyment of the experience. Just adding the suspension creaking made me more willing to drive the default vehicles more often. (It also made me more willing to smash them purposely until they became a fiery heap, but that's just mean)
These things take time, this game is very intricate and seemingly small things are atcually very invloved so they are shelved for more important things, the devs are full aware that there needs to be sounds for grass, gravel etc. To mod for this game takes serious skill, its not like Garys Mod or counter strike where you can mod quickly. Actually its not impossible to do it yourself, with a few weeks of learning jbeam and some lua code you can add custom sounds to just about anything, unless of course you have other important things to do (i.e. similar to the Devs situation)
While your on the topic of new sounds, why not brake squeaking? If you brake with a car that has ABS in real life, you can hear it squeaking. This is just a suggestion, BTW.
unless you have old, bad, low brake fluid in the brakes or old brake pads they shouldn't squeak unless they are air brakes, dang those things are noisy
We are going to have it. You can ear something in Gabe's rally video We have to clean up the sound system first before adding things on top (We could do it without, but it would look more like an hack, so no thanks ). The work on the sound system is already happening. For example, now the sound is calculated in relation to the camera speed. So no more weird sound effect like it happened here:
Yeah it is kinda awkward that when your 4-wheeling it sounds like you are running over speed bumps on asphalt.
Well, suspensions sounds aren't an issue, there just isn't the sound of dirt and rocks bouncing off the bottom of the car.
That's not a video from us. It is a mod @TheStatPow was working on, until he capped into that doppler effect bug.
Certain sounds would start being doppler shifted in motion even though the camera was moving with them. You can hear it in that quoted video.
