This time, I have a whole more of an idea to the topic, which you probably expected. So, this is about one of my favorite metal bands so far. It's very... interesting! I always like their music, and I usually adapt to songs that I wasn't such a fan of at first. Anyways, I'll list all official albums from them so far; although I will list playlists instead of videos. (I did this to make sure that all songs (plus bonus songs) are correctly in.) https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4IxTP6akfyUxstv4fVeE2V-cFYQw17qJ https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4IxTP6akfyXcFs6MB5Z5PKSZPnyvI2zH https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4IxTP6akfyXU2Jof_M71ez27jxwSmhcD https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4IxTP6akfyUf_4f0u2dbraXxcK9BOW5C https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4IxTP6akfyVFw_WdgDdAb4oBUspzH1Fl Plus, I really like the tones in each song. I feel that they fit the lyrics, and the style of the album as well.
Any particular reason besides the obvious screaming? (I don't have a problem with the screaming though.)
I prefer the more refined guitar-driven sounds, all over the low-to-high-frequency sound. Lynyrd Skynyrd, Billy Squier, AC/DC... that kind of stuff.
Yeah, but Slipknot was more of an (modern) earlier band, although I know they did have a demo album, which DIDN'T have all the other members in the self-titled album, like Corey Taylor. (Also, although they do sound a bit like Korn, and even did a few collaborations, they aren't in the same sub-genre, according to Corey.) I also think that Slipknot songs were the best when heavy. I know that a few songs like Wherein Lies Continue (AHIG) and Duality (Volume 3) did this good, but the songs that have heavy vibes (especially in 5., Iowa, and Self-titled) are to me, the most exciting.
I prefer stuff that is all over the range. Example: the guitar solo in Free Bird. It mixes high-pitched guitar squealing with banging bass and drum noises. Or Let There Be Rock by AC/DC. You have Angus Young doing guitar squeals, noise assaults and shreds, Phil Rudd's drum beat and Bon Scott's great vocals, described by one critics as "singing as if he was having sex".
Okay, I haven't checked out AC/DC, which I would look forward to. Also, let this shine some light on Slipknot's guitars. (There are two guitarists in the band, Jim Root and Mick Thomson. I just like to mention that.) I'd like to see your opinion.
Yes and I concur that they are trash. I like my metal. I dislike my slipknot. Pick up a particular album. It can be tricky to figure out which song is which by guitar riff alone as they're usually very repetitive throughout the album with alot of recycling. Songs rarely carry much meaning. Little range demonstrated Overall, heavily commercialised crap. --- Post updated --- Earlier band? They came 2 decades than those mentioned.
Atleast it's more original than most modern rap, repetitive and bad at the same time. I'll still like the band anyways, it's just my taste. --- Post updated --- I meant from this year. Plus, they seem to have less albums that Korn, which releases their albums about less years than Slipknot often does, with the exception of the time-span from Slipknot (the album) and Iowa.
Yeah, I'd rather have something like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Scott-era AC/DC, Led Zeppelin or Humble Pie - bands which experimented with their sound and successfully pushed the boundaries of their comfort zone, and never forgot to add the melodicity and warmth.
Slipknot didn't began the way they are known as now. They have an demo, which a few songs made it into the Self-titled album, and the demo didn't have all the members that were in the first album, especially the vocalist.
Even if they had a better sound, they failed to maintain it. Out of the bands I listed, only AC/DC changed its style, and that's because they had to replace Bon Scott after his death.
