So just now i heard about this tool called Structure Sensor for the iPad (probably more mobile devices soon, not sure). This seems to me, like it will be a huge help to the modeling community. It also has a Structure SDK so you can develop it yourself or to your liking. Lots of implications that i dont even know about. But yeah, havent seen it posted so i just wanted to see some others opinions, and hopefully spread it to those who dont know. http://structure.io/
That's actually pretty cool! I don't know how well this will be applicable to BNG or anything of that nature, though.
As apposed to modelling it for hours? The only problem that may pop-up it the actual quality of mesh created, inevitably, things will be merged as one and take more time to correct than to actual model the car from scratch. So yeah, maybe you are right, there are probably many more issues using a system like this to do with modelling that i have no idea about sooo... anyway, awsome concept/idea, i really want one of the sensors.
One of the biggest problems I see so far is what quality the of the data would be. Since it's coming from a video camera, I'm not so sure about the accuracy. It's still a very cool concept!
the data is not coming from the devices video camera. it's coming from a third party device of some sort attached to the ipad. it's probably a device similar to microsoft's kinect, which has been previously modded to do exactly what the video is demonstrating.
