Currently, Beam's performance isn't exactly top tier. Graphically, the game looks decent, but at the current rate, more graphical additions would make the game perform slower. So, how would Beam's devs optimise the game? What tricks could/would they use? I'm curious as to whether the game can be made more performant in the first place. Several techniques such as screen space reflections come to my mind.
Yeah the graphics used to be simple and the optimizations would mostly focus on the physics, but now stuff like the ultra settings and motion blur can really take a big hit on performance. One thing I've noticed is that shadows are especially graphically intensive, disabling them gives me way better framerates but the graphics becomes so bad it's not really playable like that. Shadow optimization when?
