I'm learning right now how to make maps, and one of the best things I've done is simply edit pre-existing maps. It's been a good way for me to learn stuff, so I do recommend the same if you're at square one when it comes to map making.

I'm having trouble with making roads. Can anyone give me advice? Like, I tried to use the road architect thingy and it doesn't render roads at all...

I would suggest following this tutorial on how to make roads without the architect:
    https://www.beamng.com/threads/ultimate-tutorial-on-how-to-make-realistic-roads.97520/

That way you also learn a lot about other world editor tools, which you may have to use to fine-tune the roads made with the architect. I feel like the road architect is not really that beginner friendly, so I would recommend using the above method first to learn the basics and come back to the architect later.

Regarding the roads not rendering: your level needs a terrain block for the road architect to work. If that's not the issue, I don't know what's wrong. Maybe you could give more information?

It does render very good decal roads but you have to paint the asphalt terrain yourself.

A good thread about making roads:

Like ik that its better to make simple maps to practise building skills, but the pa-30 highway is really simple in my opinion and I drive by every day... Lmk what you think...

Do whatever you prefer. I wasn't saying that this isn't a good practice map. In fact, I started off making a highway as well ;) (not publicly available though)

If you only want to make the highway, both the architect or doing it manually would be good options. If you also want to create some roads around the highway, you could create some of them using the tutorial and the highway using the architect.

Just create whatever you want. You'll learn the basics either way.

Do NOT use the road architect tool; it is unstable and likes to corrupt files. People have lost weeks of work and cancelled large maps due to it erasing saved changes.

That's why you have to make regular backups, to not lost everything with a single error.
