As much as I have understand it the part system would be like the part system used in Street Legal Racing Redline.
E.g. you buy an engineblock and buy matching parts for it like the crankshaft, connection rods, pistons and so on.

    (imported from here)
Correct me if I am false.
    (Sry for some writing mistakes)

We aren't going into such a deep level of simulation/customization for engines, but the basic concepts are similar. An engine would be a part, and you could install parts to upgrade it (more on that later)

Heat, hydro-lock, and impact damage plz. (Run your motor too hard for too long, generic valvetrain unhappy sounds kick in, engine produces less power, eventually surges and dies and doesn't start again. Water reaches location of intake, motor dies and does not run again. Hit a wall so hard it crushes the motor block, engine doesn't run.) All quite easy to implement, not too detailed, but definitely necessary.
