I am helping my friend buy a laptop........ He plays things like Minecraft, Garry's mod and team fortress 2 all the time. His old MacBook broke and is deciding to go for windows. i've yet to see what is so bad about hp laptops i've had hp's and a asus both never gave me any issues.
ASUS I am yet to come across a single device in the hands of end users which hasnt had any issue at all. HP the exact opposite, although I have heard that they did have problems with dedicated GPU's but never heard of anything else major (besides usual bloatware). My HP is yet to have any issues, but I got it in August so there is time yet, its also lacking dedicated graphics.
I only had my asus for a year but i'm on my second hp laptop first one had no issues the couple years i've had it and this new one i've only had 2 month and so far no issues.
i also have an hp laptop, the hp 2000-412nr to be exact, not a monster by any means, but its enough for basic things, as well as lowest settings on the majority of games, never had an asus though, so cant remark on them, but ive never had a problem with hp's stuff (my first pc was a Compaq Presario a916NR, and at the time, hp owned compaq, so, its technically an hp product
I have a hp like this, with an AMD A4, i go to my friends because were best friends and we play TF2, GMOD and mc and my laptop runs them well at okay fps (I mean 35-40)Not really like yours, but its a red g6
My laptop has a Core 2 Duo at 2.6GHz and a Quadro NVS 160m and it handles MC at low-med settings at 60+ FPS. MC isn't a really power hungry game. Hell, I can run it on the crummy old D505 with crappy Intel graphics. My desktop with an A8 and GTX 650ti gets 160+ FPS at max. I do like to use Optifine on my laptop and netbook but I think there's no 1.7 version yet.
My HP is running an intel i3-3217U. Its a 1.8ghz dual core with the HD4000 graphics. I havent done an FPS test in the 1.7 update (although it is meant to be *much* better) but normal render distance with VSync on is a solid 30 with the odd 60 (go to a desert for example and it seems to spike). I don't complain. Desktop thrashes the game out on the optifine extreme render setting without issue if I really want to moan at 30fps on normal and I could install optifine on the laptop if I wanted to but I really cant be bothered right now, might just install it to get connected textures back perhaps.
the specs for my hp are in my sig (Laptop #1) ive tested minecraft once, latest version, i get about 25-40ish fps (most of the time, 25-30 though)
look for notebooks with good driver support, nothing else is more important. You cant change the graphic card MSI, Asus are better ones as example
Yep, Toshiba's still almost 6 months behind Intel's iGPU drivers. Sadly I've heard massive leaps were made in those six months.
..., all pc's are behind on driver's when you first buy them, period, see though, thats why we have this thing called UPDATES, they can fix that
...no. I can't use the generic Intel drivers, I have to use Toshiba's customized ones. Toshiba's most recent release is based on Intel's drivers from June or July. Hence, my laptop drivers are 5-6 months behind the most recent, and will be for a while. I've tried 7 ways to Sunday (short of loading my own copy of Windows) to get the generic ones to take, they just will not. Also, Toshiba initially installed the wrong drivers. They had installed drivers for the HD4000, mine is a Sandy Bridge and has HD3000. Good OEM driver support is absolutely VITAL when buying a laptop. Alternatively, find an OEM who will let you install the generic drivers.
ummm, yeah you can use generic intel driver's, its not toshiba's choice weather you can or not, just go to https://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx and choose detect, install the driver's, and restart when asked
Nope, doesn't work. I've tried every way possible short of reloading the OS. Every time I get a little further, it spits out an error in the end though.
user error, microsoft made it so that the manufacturer isn't aloud to force people to use certain driver's ALSO, the intel hd 4000 driver on intel hd 3000 gpu is impossible, driver's are made to only work for the device there made for, trying to force it to work on the wrong device, will bsod your pc, and possibly even ruin it
I can confirm logosters claim. Toshiba do not have the power to customise the intel hardware at all, the official intel drivers *do* install just fine. I had a dell laptop and in the entire 5 years I had it dell not once updated their drivers for the GMA950 graphics and they were already over a year out of date, however intel did right upto me having the system for 3 years. Intels drivers installed fine. Had a dell desktop with the same issue, intels official drivers installed fine. User error.
