I enjoy escaping from police in "Freeroam" mode, despite police AI which takes a lot of fun out of it. The reason is that the police AI punishes fast driving, so the faster I drive the more likely they will kamikaze into me. In other words I get punished for skill, which is the exact opposite of good game design. Therefore I suggest the devs reverse the way police AI works, so that the faster and more skillful you drive, the less likely they are to catch you. Thanks for your consideration.
I run away police within speed limits, I don't need to usually even speed up, just steer to side when they do try kamikaze thing. Police was more fun in 0.22 as they did not do so much kamikaze thing, but more of chasing happened, not sure if it really is easy or simple to fix behavior of police, but I think 0.22 police behavior would be huge improvement.
If the police gets mad at you for driving fast, it is often impossible to avoid their head-on kamikaze attacks, especially if the police uses sports cars like they do in Italy. In my experience the best escape cars are those prepped for derby, and none of them handles anywhere close to those police bolides, which makes avoiding their suicide head-on attacks near impossible. Also you're often boxed in, so no matter what car you're in you're a sitting duck when the head-on attack comes. So I agree with another poster that return to 0.22 police AI would make the police chases more fun and rewarding. The first rule of game design is: do not punish skill, and that's exactly what the new police AI is doing.
Speaking of police in Italy, the spawn rate of the Bolide should be lower, they are everywhere and ram into you head-on every time, there should be some Carabinieri Hoppers instead
I don't think "punishing skill" is the right way to put it. It's just the ai trying to stop you however it can. Though i would like to see the ai having more sense of self-conservation, that should stop the suicide crashes.
I guess he means that with current police system you can actually getaway much easier by driving super slowly, like a granny, but trying to speed is not helping at all, which is something that really makes police system feel rather uninteresting to use. In 0.22 one could have attempts of high speed getaways with more rewarding experience than with driving slowly. Punishing skill might not be quite the best description of it of course.
The police car spawn system is less than ideal. I went over it in detail in a post in Update Speculation in regards to another theory, but I have attached the relevant section here.
