Say for example SBR4 lettering, there are three different colormaps, d, n and s. The one that intrigued me the most was the "n" colormap. "d" and "s" are fairly easily since it's just black and white at most in general. And worse there isn't really a guide to make them, otherwise the future mods in general would be a lot better and diverse if there's a guide to create the lettering. Even more of a bonus if any of you could include the other letterings like covet and midsize lettering (ao, b, d, m, n, nm, o, r and s) maps. Ofc I know it needs to be done on paint.net, but like I have said the "n" part (the yellowy thing with extrusions among the lettering) was the most confusing part.
d – diffuse map, s – specular map, n/nm – normal map, ao – ambient occlusion map, b – bump map (?), m – metallic map, o – opacity map, r – roughness map. You can generate normal maps with virtually any image editor, though I'd recommend Photoshop (or Photopea). This should give you the general understanding of what they are and how they work. Note that v1.0 materials (deprecated) only use different texture sets than v1.5 materials (current). I'd also suggest playing with World Editor's material editor to see how different textures and colors affect your materials.
to add to what ghost_cauli said, "B" is usually "base colour" and it acts as the mask for things that need a paint colour on them.
