Usually horizontal, its logic when driving an actual car

Actually it depend from games to games. There’s different ways to calculate fov, some sim racing games uses vertical fov instead of other that uses horizontal, that’s why I need to be sure :)

I have set it pretty much same value as Assetto Corsa, but I think rFactor needed bit lower values.

Not sure which it is really, couldn't even find posts that tell which one it is, so you might need to try one, compare to other sim you use and if it results totally different amount of car interior shown, then try other fov and you should be able to see which one it is.

    Okay.
Personnaly I use this great tool to find my FOV, it’s made by Mrpix and it’s very useful:

Ok so it looks like game uses vertical FOV, same as Assetto Corsa.

I may be wrong as it’s not confirmed by devs but using my same personnal FOV values like in Assetto Corsa seems to be the good setup for me :)

Correct setup helps you hit apexes much better when using a wheel, using a controller it does not matter much as controller is so inaccurate anyway, but with wheel it is quite nice when you find the perfect FOV.

Calculators give nice starting point where to start tuning.

On every sim games when using a wheel, setup FOV is very important to make distances match with what you should see in a real car. Your screen limits what you can see, and to have correct feedback and correctly see good proportions you need to ajust FOV. Imagine yourself in a real car, you have a very wide angle of vision due to what your eyes can see. In sim racing you’re limited by the size of your screen, so you can’t have the same wide vision as IRL. Imagine yourself in a real car, you’re holding your own screen but it’s trasparent, holding it at the same distance from you like on your simracing setup. What is displayed IRL on your transparent screen is what you should see in your sim racing game. That means that on your setup, to get a correct feeling of sim, your wheel have to be concidered as part of car interior, and your screen should display the same thing you saw on your experiment with the transparent screen IRL.

It’s hard to describe and it’s a little bit complicated, what is important is that you want to replicate the same view and distances as you should see IRL and distance from screen and size of the screen affects FOV.

If it’s nicely done, you should feel more car movement and be more precise as you could be IRL.

That’s why people like to have very big screens or triple screen or using VR, because if you want to replicate the same view as what your car windscreen display irl, you should have a screen that have the exact same size of your car windscreen :)

It’s a question of proportions on your setup to feel like being part of a real car
