I don't understand why there's not a free roam car game set in Japan! Noone has llike ''done it''. (Or am i wrong?) Japan is such a beautiful country when it comes to nature, cities etc. Especially Tokyo! So much light, such technology and it looks mind blowing at night. I hope some day this will be created with good car choice, good handling you know, all that good stuff. And a photomode of course.
I agree, Japan would make a great open world environment. Japan has been featured in a number of racing games but never as an open world environment (at least not to my knowledge). I would love to see more open world driving games in the future, and Japan would make an epic location. Of course making a city like Tokyo would take a LOT of work.
Yes, there really needs to be more games set in Japan, it really limited to domestic games, and they were mainly focused on racing (for example, Saisoku! Zokusha King or the Battle Gear series) A modern, western game that was set in Japan would be uber, Something like GTA: Tokyo Stories would be amazing, expecially if it was set in 1986, just think of the car lineup... - - - Updated - - - This was a shameful effort at Tokyo. It's just like all the other cities, as you still get the same crapbox American SUV's and uninspiring 90's economy cars. They could have at least made the effort to include JDM vehicles for Tokyo...
Eh hehhhmmmmm.....tokyo extreme racer: zero was free roam, based in tokyo. Highways and ricers, one of my favorite games on PS2. Otherwise its test drive unlimited, which is based in Oahu, Hawaii, which is as close to a modern free roam game based in an "asian" atmosphere, even though hawaii is American and all.
Well I have some doubt that Gran Turismo 7 will be open world. It's a Japanese franchise so It would probably be set in Japan. Kaz wanted free roam where you could get out of your car and walk in to shops and stuff in GT5 but it never happend. Actually, I really hope that he will make it open world. It's getting pretty boring with racing on closed tracks but it's probably going to be like that...
There's a compromise. When it comes to a racing sim I'm perfectly happy with track circuit racing only, like in the Forza series. Test Drive Unlimited really nailed the open world concept by giving it an arcade feel. I'm sure a huge open world with BeamNGDrive's physics would be wonderful but in truth most people would likely lose their patience playing such a game if every time you hit a curb or a big bump your alignments were to get messed up or if you clip the shoulder and can't recover and wreck the car. You'd never make any progress unless you drove like if it were real life and at that stage, you might as well just get in your IRL car and go for a real life cruise. And the thought of, 'getting out your car to go shopping'... What do you want next? Guns? Robberies? Murder? Bust out Grand Theft Auto if you please. If I'm going to play a sim then I do not want to do anything except deal with the cars and how to drive them to their max. Shopping or walking around completely deters from the focus of what a racing sim ought to be.
Assetto Corsa is a very good driving simulation game with Japanese tracks such as Fuji Speedway, Suzuka Circuit, Meihan Sportsland, Bihoku Highlands and more
Rockstar has said once that a GTA Tokyo will be unlikely because of the road layout and the typical brands in GTA that they'd have to change. -edit: boy, now I see that massive bump..
I'll take the bullet for this guy, he's new around here. @Esar On these forums it is appreciated that you do not bump threads that are older than around 6 months, in this case the last post was over 2 years ago (August 2014). Next time you post in a thread please read the date of the last post and if it is more than 6 months the thread is most likely inactive or "dead" and posting in it should be avoided as this will cause it to be bumped to the top meaning everybody has to put up with another thread in the Whats New tab. However if you have something to contribute to the thread such as a solve to a problem or something similar it is OK to make a post as long as it contributes to the thread. Welcome to the forums, if you follow the rules you will have a good time.
GT 7 will never be a fucking open world. Not insulting you, but the sole thought of it its dumb. Forza Horizon 4 would have a nice time in japan for a change. Yakuza could be as close as a GTA Japan as you can get. If you want an even more open world one, try Way Of the Samurai. Although that's more of a fiction game that takes place 200 years ago For racing games, there's Fast & Furius Tokyo Drift game for the PS2 and PSP (PSP its just a lite version). The game its with so much potential, yet the handling and physics are puke inducing. There's also the Tokyo Xtreme Racer series. As of why its not exactly a great idea to make an open world racing game based on japan, its because other than wangan racing and touge there is literally nothing else to do. What, you wanna race at high speeds through ways of rural cities in japan? that could kinda work, but its not enough. City street racing? In japan? It would either feel awful or thegame would be criticized heavily. The cities of japan aren't the same as in the US.
