So, I'm thinking about getting BeamNG, but I have a relatively mid-range computer. A Radeon Pro 570 and an Intel Core i5 7500 with 8 GB of system memory (2400 MHz DDR4, to be specific.) and 4 GB of video memory. Would this hardware be suitable for running the game at medium overall graphics at 1080p with 1 or 2 cars?
Yes it would, and you could always upgrade GPU later if needed. The CPU is more than enough. I'd recommend upgrading to 16 GB of RAM though as I've seen BeamNG using up to about 7.9 GB on its own with certain mod maps. The base game will run fine on 8 GB though.
Radeon Pro 570... You have an iMac? You couldn't get that chip in a MacBook Pro, and it sure as hell isn't an RX 570. Watch out for thermals because, well, it's a Mac. I've done my time with them. I'd gladly do it again, but not until I've done some... "modification" to the cooling system.
Yeah, it's a Mac, 27-inch model from 2017, to be specific. Running Windows, because I bootcamped the thing. The Radeon Settings software that was installed when I bootcamped Windows says it's a Pro 570, and so does every other piece of information I can cite. I've done a very small bit of research regarding fan-control software, and I've found a rather sketchy (in my opinion) looking program called "Macs Fan Control", which is designed to control fan speed on Macs that have been bootcamped to run Windows. If you've used the software, could you tell me if it can be trusted? Sorry if I sound like a complete idiot, because I am. Oh yeah, and (please tell me if this is normal), according to Task manager, my cpu speed ramps way up whenever I run games like Portal 2, typically jumping up from around .8 GHz all the way up to 3.2, sometimes 3.6.
Macs Fan Control is safe as far as I can tell, I use it on my Macbook Pro running macOS to make sure everything's running cool when I'm working on something in Logic Pro or just playing some games. If you're going to be doing anything that will be straining the system such as gaming, you should definitely be using a fan control program. I'm not entirely sure that GPU is going to be very good with BeamNG.drive, but the only way to really try it is to well, try it. CPU and RAM seem ok to me. The techdemo isn't going to be of much use, so just get together some money, and buy the game (You should be able to get a refund later.) And I think it's normal for your CPU to speed up when its under load... It'd be odd if it wasn't doing that.
Okay, so, I installed MacsFanControl and I've set my fan speed to be around 1900 RPM. Should that speed keep my computer *relatively* cool while playing the game? Sorry, I just really dont want to risk any overheating. I'll try the game out by Wednesday.
