Recording scrapes and grinds for impact audio system

    Some impressions of the last recording session for the new audio system. Next up: scrapes and grinds.

    What if a vehicle flips upside down and the body scratches against asphalt? What if the same thing happens on gravel? Or the exhaust system gets detached and scrapes against the floor? Those questions need answers also in terms of audio. Scrapping a whole vehicle outdoors might have been fun, but this time we decided to re-create the sounds in the studio, using car parts and different surface types.

    Please Note: Everything here is a work in progress and in no way reflects the final quality or confirm their presence in-game.

    So here are some pics and a short clip of the recordings we´ve made:

    After mixing and editing the recordings, we will implement them with our audio middleware FMOD and use physics parameter from BeamNG.drive to change the sounds in real-time.

    Does that mean that those will be added now? Even with the exhaust scraping on the ground? :D And what about the radiator on dirt from one of the pictures? Will that also have a dragging-on-ground sound?

    This is all in a very experimental state at the moment. We are planning to add those, yes, but we have no plan yet when and how. The recordings will give us a good basis and material to work with though. The vehicle parts you see on the pics was just what I could get from the scrap container from the garage I went to ;)

    I know it's weird, but this is exactly what I've been missing from BeamNG lately. Hope you'll be able to actually implement it.

    Seems pretty cool! I’m not sure if there are any other sounds that could be added. Open door chime I guess, maybe a sped up or slowed down indicator noise for a busted indicator?

    I can't imagine what a person living nearby thinks about. He sees every day a guy entering a building with car parts, bricks and sand.
    Btw this will add a lot more realism and immersion :)

    And I shouldn't have opened the video: I need new ears now :(

    This makes me happy. I must say little things like the recent tire chirp addition really have a HUGE impact on immersion.
    I would say the biggest thing missing from this game (technically speaking), is obviously the audio. The wonderful physics
    matched with equally wonderful audio.....the wait is killing me!

    more sound improvements, should mean a cooler sounding game. what I would love to see though is revamp of the lighting system. no matter what, I get the same FPS between low and high, but when i turn it to lowest, I instantly get 30+ fps. IDK if it's mods, my system, or something related to the lighting system in BeamNG.

    That will be sorted in coming updates, probably within 2 years or sooner, that is my guess.

    I like how resourceful methods were used to get to record all sounds etc. Reminds me really old days when had to create some sounds for the short film. It is surprising how different things can actually produce best working sound of completely something else and yes, only experimenting will help to find out what works and what does not.

    My only kind of concern is it looks like there's a lot of clipping in those audio streams...

    True, I'm not taking a dump on it yet. XD Clipping is just terrible. Still anxiously wating for some cool audio updates. The recent overhaul was a major improvement.
